red light camera destroyer

I've always have been on the east coast. Dont know why you thought different. My location listed used to be NE seacoast.
 





Sounds like the TTC bus drivers in Toronto..Since Ontario passed a law that
makes you yield to them, its got even worse.

IIRC 4 fatalities involving TTC vehicles in the first week of 2011.

What's funny is, with all our complaining, the system here isn't that bad. Not as good as in some other countries, but compared to china, india, russia, and many many others it is very good. Try driving around in Kyrghyzstan during rush hour :banghead:

I do HATE driving in Brooklyn though. As for yielding... problem is after a while the drivers actually get used to and expect you to yield, sometimes it's actually annoying.

I drive a crown vic and everyone always assumes I'm a cop - even cops - they wave to me :undecided: It can get very annoying at times, reaction is always the same, guy in front of you slams on breaks a second after looking into rear view mirror and immediately merges over to the right. Or sometimes just slows down to a mile under the limit... IN THE LEFT LANE :banghead:

I can't complain too much though... haven't had a ticket from a live cop since I got the car, and I do speed quite a bit;)

To any safety advocates... I haven't been in any accidents in many many years. In fact the ones I have been in were judged to be 100% not my fault... Just because I drive fast doesn't mean I don't do it with safety in mind.

Same problem here in holland, the fine for running a red light is in the order of $250.

Obviously my satnav alerts me to any intersections that have red light and or speed camera's, and on the ones that do i brake for yellow too, even if thats really dangerous at that point, and i would have probably passed through orange easily.

I rarely run a red light intentionally, but on these intersections i don't even risk it and slam the brakes to make an ABS stop if the things turn orange. Obviously this could end very very badly if the vehicle behind me doesnt have a satnav alerting the driver of the camera, or an inferior braking system.

To make matters worse, mopeds are allowed to drive on the car lanes in holland, and those things often have brakes that work so badly that a car would fail decelleration testing on MOT. I reckon slamming your moped into a max-braking stationwagon would be painful.

At $250 I would slam the brakes too. Considering it's size, my car breaks very quickly... but considering the cab that's usually tailing me... well I guess I should stick a neck brace into my car ;)
 
Don't know if this was mentioned, but the OP may want to adjust the thread title...
You may inadvertently cause hassle to the site owner as it suggests illegal activity
and may bring more lawyer fees for him..

"red light camera destroyer" sounds like a conspiracy is a brewin..

This has been bugging me, and I know this is clichéd, but think if everyone did that? There's a good chance you're going to get T-Boned by someone who is just going a tad over, or speeding up to make it through a yellow. I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but so be it. The laws are there for a reason. I've seen too many good people killed in car accidents by people breaking 'small' laws, so forgive me if I'm a bit prejudiced against breaking the law in any way.

Look, I'm all for safe driving, but speed limits are often simply a joke. They were implemented with 1970 roads and cars. Also imiting EVERYONE to the lowest common denominator is not something that works. I'm not a 90 year old disabled geezer with poor sight driving a 1980 caddie... why should I be forced to drive like one?

Earlier post references an interesting article actually, that calls into question the benefit of speed limits. After reading it, some more googling seemed to bear out the sources.

Please don't take this as a flame, but if you want to drive the speed limit, always, that's fine, just stick to the right lane please :)

Lastly, while it is illegal, I think most people will agree that it is not immoral to destroy red light cameras. If for no other reason than the accidents these cameras cause.
 
Where I live there are a lot of areas with a 25 limit that could EASILY be 30 and some 30 areas that should be like 40+. The limits have simply never been updated or reviewed. Also the rich neighborhoods have tons of 4 way stops and speed bumps that serve no other purpose than to discourage traffic from going through their neighborhood.

Exactly!

I'll also add that there are some roads I know where the speed limit should be lowered - narrow twisting roads on which it is simply not a good idea to drive fast.

Problem is, the logic applied to setting the limits in the first place was wrong. Now it also happens to be badly outdated.

Anyone using a lasers for things like this is an A-hole.

Most People who get tickets are full of it if they are trying to tell me that they dont run lights more than that one time they got a ticket.

Stop/ turn right on red means just that- not slow down and run the light- Noones life or safety is less valuable that your need to get someplace sooner. Some cars and all Mototcycles- pedestrians- those on bicycles etc are much harder to see and stop for them if you dont make a full stop before making your turn. Driving is still a priviledge and not a right.
 
Hmm I like this idea, I am against running reds as they do cause accidents but here the red light cameras also do speed on green. They are easy to spot and I never speed through them but the principle grinds my gears.

Green is visible though and more likely to be spotted, high power IR anyone?

A friend of mine from England told me they drill a hole into the case and fill them with spray foam. classic!

Unfortunately we're there already. Patriot Act gives any law enforcement virtual carte blanche to do whatever they want. Technology exists to enable very close monitoring.

Also right now cameras are strictly in fixed positions or when not fixed, under direct control of human operators. It's only a matter of progression until mobile monitoring units are created.

BUT as always, people are willing to give up whatever little freedom they have for that feeling of false security.

I suppose the safest thing will be to live in a Matrix style pod...

From a more current day example, google grabbed UNencrypted wifi data, and pictures of people in PUBLIC locations, and got in crap loads of trouble over it. Meanwhile governments do the same all the time for profit of corporations and 99% of the "good god fearing folk" are just dandy with that.

Alright rant over. I just couldn't resist.:p
