If you read the reviews on testing you will see that the acrylics out -preform the glass, but in a 445 diode they absorb heat- darken-- then absorb even more and then smoke and melt-not a good thing-(Greenmechanic saw smoke at 40 seconds of the first run at 1 W)_-- but more mWs until that happens.Actually this might not be true. If it was one of the 445 batch that ended up with the wrong coating, it's fairly useless for both 405/445 AND reds.. I had of the few of the miscoated ones and I thought the same.. that I could just use them for reds, but when I tested them on 660's, their performance was way below even the uncoated acrylics that come with the aixiz modules.
If you ordered a 405/445 lens and got a blue tinted one, get it replaced.

glass is more scratch resistant and is cleanable- plastic --not so much.
Are you sure you didn't swap them around?
You can somewhat guess the nature of the coating by looking straight onto the lens with a lamp behind you. The color reflected should be opposite of the color the lens was designed for.
With the 400-450 coated lenses it should be yellowish, with the 650 lenses is should be bluish.
But this only works when you have the light source behind you, so you're looking at a reflecion close to a normal angle. If you look at the coating from the side, it could be totally different.
