Rainbow dot?

Lol, I would have to make a laser fort quick. :D Imagine if your laser art was found from the middle ages. :thinking: :D

It wouldn't because it had been burned with me for performing magic in middle age. :D Anyway I would prefer earlier times, when religions were at their beginning, maybe I would have been considered as a god like in Däniken's books. :D Just imagine reading the bible (for example) now:
"...and than the bright beam touched the eyes of blind and brought their sight back..."

Considering my art I would prefer some form of "near RGB" prints, not CMYK where colors are not nearly to real human eye perception of beautiful wavelengths of lasers. Maybe I need a time machine or deep space travel vehicle to put my pictures on some planet which is in this stage of civilisation developement... :thinking:

But interesting off topic discussion anyway...

There is are 'white' laser diodes, but are not readily available yet. It is a sandwich of rgb again.

That one was pumped by another laser, so probably not all that practical for a pointer, even if it was a commercial product.

The breakthrough there was that they managed to get three different gain mediums onto one semiconductor chip. That's long been an issue due to differences in the structure of each gain medium.

Perhaps one day, but I think it's a long way off before you see RGB on a single chip in a single diode can.

The KES400A uses 3 individual chips, one for each wavelength.
 
I didn't read it all through as I already have heard of them. I wasn't aware they were pumped by another laser. Still, it is progress at least. :)

Be realistic Diachi, according to iRobot, we are only meant to have cars on ball bearings by 2035. :D Give it another 30-40 years. ;)

What diode do you mean?
The RGB laser diode, which is still under developement or 405 nm laser diode I posted?

None of them is reasonable for you what you want. For RGB you would have to pay a lab for developing it for you (I cannot even imagine paying something like this for laser - however you can produce and sell them later :D), and 405 nm is quite cheap, but the rainbow from fluorescence is just under quite special conditions and I posted it just as an interesting effect I noticed in my laser art.

To conclude and help you with your problem:

If you want reasonable cost, size and the best rainbow dot/circle you should go for:
1) RGB laser projector - many options of rainbow dots, but it is not very portable.
2) ArcticDude's RGB host (or something like this) - but you need to add there difraction grating or make some galvo optics to shape output into circle (or anything else desired) and in addition to connect and synchronise the galvos with driver for change of colors.

I'm not aware of anything more practical and it seems not even more experienced members of LPF.

You did not say for what you need the rainbow dot, therefore it is hard to suggest solution for you.

Elopement, there is something very important aspect of how lasers work that you need to remember. Lasers are monochromatic (emits a very narrow line in the spectrum). In order to create the illusion of more colours, we have to combine multiple beams together following the rgb configuration.

There are lasers that emit multiple lines such as Argon and Krypton lasers, but they are huge inefficient gas lasers.

The other is a special super continuum laser also already mentioned, they are also not compact and cost a large fortune.

There simply isn't a technology readily available that can give you exactly what you want in a pointer form. That rgb portable is the closest to what you can achieve.
