I just read some of the rules about buying selling and trading but what about repairing? I understand one must have a decent reputation to be trusted to any reasonable degree in order to conduct any type of business while using the forum medium but what about repairs?

Honestly I like lasers, I can safely operate one but all I want to do is mail my laser to someone, have them repair it, pay them via paypal and trust they will mail it back.

I do not really want to engage in conversations nor take forever trying to come up with things to say on a forum... any advice?

..welcome--

IF you are near Portland-- you can meet in person with many great members- more personal than having to 'engage' via the forum.

I must ask you --how do we 'see' you unless we engage at the forum?-- just saying you are being safe is not enough--plz tell us about your eye protection?

look for new posts in this thread.

BTW if you do not own a LPM any Portland member w/ a LPM will be happy to meter any of your lasers
at no charge.

also by connecting with others you will know about any planned laser events (like LEMs) close by.

(search NWLEM)

If it’s a diode build, most members will be able to help you, but if it’s dpss there are fewer that can help you unless it’s a driver issue.

Good luck on fixing it, lifetime17 is very trustworthy

Before you send it to anyone, try testing the current draw to try to determine if it’s a driver issue, connectivity issue, or a led’d diode.

There are many great builders on the forums here. Any of them can repair your direct diode laser. Solid state lasers are more advanced and not all builders here have built these. But, it is unlikely you will have anything for repair more exotic that 532nm DPSS lasers. Good luck.

I suspect he is talking about repairing, again, an 8 year old 445nm "Warrior Tactical Lasers"laser mentioned in post #43 here: https://laserpointerforums.com/f63/anyone-heard-warrior-tactical-lasers-k-jay-peoples-67464-3.html#post1534652

Prices for 445nm laser are so low now he is probably better off just buying another new laser unless it has sentimental value ---- he can get a 1W-2W 445nm for like $50 or close to that.

Ah. That is likely one of the cheapest diodes you can buy now. I could throw one together for $50.00 tops and have. The greatest expense is the heat sinked host. 2+ watts out. I would suspect most any veteran here could fix that and several new members as well.

I can vouch for Lifetime17...
He can be trusted to repair and send back
your Laser.
Just send a PM (Personal Message) to him
explaining that you want him to fix an already
fixed 8 year old laser that is now dead again.

Heads Up... Necroposting in the other Thread
will not endear you to the members here...:undecided:

Thank you all of you. I had this forum bookmarked for over 7 years and would occasionally check out some of the links or see if anything about Jay Peoples was newly posted.

I don't think I was ripped off per sey by him but rather shoddy work and bad communication mostly.

So Rich yea ill book mark this, I promise it wont be any where near 7 years till I get to ya but im moving to Vancouver in July and need to get settled in, plus my laser is already packed away

Looking forward to the repair though because I've had that thing broken much longer than I've had it fixed and working haha

Are you moving to Vancouver, WA? I lived there while my wife worked in Portland and my daughter was born in Portland while we were in Vancouver. The sales tax is less there than other parts of Washington because it is just over a bridge away from Portland, but you don't have to pay state income tax unless you work in Portland.

I wont have to pay state income tax any ways . I am an owner op[operator with a trucking company based in Portland but truck drivers in that situation don't have to pay an income tax because of the amtrack act .

On the other hand truck drivers in general , company drivers etc don't get over time . I'm moving to hazeldell to a one bed condo for 800 a month which I'm pretty happy about.

Looking forward to getting settled in, setting up my battle station and getting internet hooked up. Only issue I have is either having to find a cheap washer and dryer ( stackable ) or doing that stupid rent to own thing where they will deliver it.

You didn't say which Vancouver you are moving to. Also, you don't want to rent a washer and dryer. You will end up paying much, much more that buying one on credit at a 25% interest rate. If you just have to, buy a used pair.

Hazeldell area. Its near i5 exit 4 North bound. I fully agree with you on the washer and dryer but for now I think ill at least look into it.

Once I get settled ill figure out if I want comcast or hopefully they got other providers, get my house set up and get to sending off my laser for repair. Sure im not just going to send it to any one but really I'm at a point where " what have I got to lose" I bought it so long ago.... It will be a nice little addition to my already wonderful other things I either have or am buying for my living room mancave.
