Can the diodes from a cd-rw or a dvd-rom be used for anything useful ? Thanks to any & all who post an answer............rob

i couldn't find it in the search but when i first joined i remember reading about this topic. i believe daguin said they are really weak IR diodes. hope that helps

CD burner diodes are relatively high-powered 780nm IR (the higher the burning speed the more powerful the diode). They can be used for burning just like 808nm, but people prefer 808nm IR since it can be used for pumping as well.. A DVD-ROM will yield a ~5mW 650-660nm diode. Not too exciting..

Thanks guys, appreciate your answers. That was what I thought that I had read also, but couldn't find it, so THANK YOU both............rob
