Question about survival laser solderless kits

Hi guys! I want to build mi first laser, i've seen on survival laser that they have a lot of kits. Are these kits really slderless? I need only to tighten screws or there are some special processing to be done? Customs could create problems if the laser it is disassembled?

I don't know about the survival laser solderless kits but for a laser build you almost need a solder iron. There is no going around it. Any temporary disconnections at the diode pins even for a millisecond will destroy the diode.

Any international shipping outside the country can risk custom seizures. Most of the time it causes no problems. You want MOAR lasers ?

Yes, the kits are really solderless. Building them are really easy and takes no experience or tools.

No, I don't see how customs would be a problem, as it's only a bunch of electronics and hardware. It's just as illegal as a DVD burner.

Thats about it. The necessary soldering is already done so its just a case of assembling the parts. Have a look on you tube, there's bound to be a video of it somewhere

Yea that is what I thought until German customs made one of my customers assemble a solderless kit and then took it from him when he was done. My bet is the paper work they submitted when they confiscated it says it came assembled or make no mention of it being in parts.

In all reality they are not kits. They are just disassembled lasers. If all you have to do is screw the something in I would not say that really can be described as a kit or parts. If I unscrew the tailcap is is no longer a laser and now can be called a kit? If you have to use a soldering iron to do the wiring yourself that would be better described as a kit or parts.

If you have to use tools like a soldering iron to put it together it will protect you from that but they knew what it was and made him assemble it. So it can happen but it is still very unlikley they will even look in the package.:beer:

Yea it was pretty screwed up. The funny part is the way it went down they knew exactly what it was and that it was perfectly legal to import into Germany as the parts that were shipped so they tricked him into putting it all together and he was not wise enough to stand his ground.

It was very similar. It had a diode in a module that was connected to a driver in a pill that had to be screwed into the body of the flashlight host then the head of the host screwed on, heatsink dropped in, module set and tightened down, retaining ring screwed down, battery inserted and tailcap screwed on.

All the parts were individually wrapped in little bubble wrapped pillows. diode/driver, heatsink, flashlight head, flashlight host body, tailcap, glass lens, battery.

I don't ever use the term laser on any international package. I might as well label it as plutonium.:crackup: I normally use machined parts or something like that.


Now I sent him another a few days later and it got to him without issue so it is very rare that they will even check it but the best way to do it would be to send the host, battery and lens in one package and the module unit a separate but most don't want to pay an extra $38 for a second tracked package.
