Question about building a 16X red Laser

hello there ..

i want to build a burning Laser Extract from a LG DVD writer 16X

and i want Ask about something ..

now if i take out the diode and Attach it Directly to the Battery


Will it work ?

I mean Without the green chip

...?

OK then were can i found that chip

dose the 5mw laser chip will make it work ?

You've got to use the search function. Try searching using the keywords "driver", "rkcstr driver" and "flexdrive".. A driver is the term for the "green chip" as you put it. Do some independent research around the site. Once you've got an idea how this stuff works, then if you still have questions, we will be glad to help.

What you need for a red diode, is usually:

A module - Pref Aixiz
A driver - rckstr / flexdrive are the most popular.
A host - Search the B/S/T forum you will see a lot of kits FS.
Power - You want the right enough power to keep your diode alive, too little will give you an output you can live with, but not nearly enough entertaining as more higher powered batteries.

The driver also contributes to the power as you can set the driver to an approx/accurate current, depending on the tools your using. (and experience you have/dont have).

And, by the way, what you're referring to (drivers) aren't actually "chips." They are usually printed circuit boards with components mounted on them, whereas a chip is an [COLOR="#Blue"]integrated circuit[/COLOR] which, like the name suggests, contains an entire circuit with everything needed for its functionality packaged into a single unit- known as a chip.

thanks for the help But I really do not know anything about drivers

so i do some thing I'd see on this forum

and it actually work very good Without Burning the diode

But I can not burn a matchstick with the Laser light

so can any one tell me why is that ?

You probably can't burn anything because the laser probably isn't focused to a fine enough point. Do you have an adjustable focus lense of some sort on it?

YES I DO

and i did focus it

but it didn't burn any thing :yabbem:

Then my next question is how many milliamps are you running it at?

I am trying to run it with 2 AA 1.5 volts for each batteries

Ok, but if you do not have a regulated current going to the diode then you probably already have killed it. Also, that is probably too low of a voltage. The diode probably needs at least 3.5v.

No problem, but next time you try to get a laser working, buy a rkcstr or Flexdrive driver first and a dummy load wouldn't be a bad idea either.
