Hello again, im forced to ask your help again. I bought TO-38 laser diode(3,8mm diameter), but i didnt notice that somehow, i even dont know how i missed so important thing. I have TO-18(5,6mm) holder for diode and lens. My question is can i fit that diode into that holder? I thought can i just place it in there and fill it up with thermal glue somehow, it seems pretty hard but thats one chance. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I would no advise trying something like that. You would be best to get a 3.8mm module for the diode.

Buy a Thin Copper/Aluminium foil, cutting the high 5/6 from the Diode wrap it tight to the diode as you can, make this so thick that you can press in...voila !

Thermal Glue is not a way, this glued two parts, is a relatively bad conductor and is normally very thin between two Tile's.

I'm with DTR on this one. The cost of the correct module is a fraction of the cost of most laser diodes. Any trial and error fiddling with a TO-18 module to try to get good thermal dynamics using the TO-38 laser diode would most likely leave you with an off center diode and terrible thermodynamics.

Hi,
You will need a diode press kit from Flaming pyro here on the forum. what it's purpose is to press the diode into a copper module for a 3.8mm diode. it's fairly easy if you take your time doing it. here are some pics to show what it looks like..

Rich:)

The press is a given, but he will still need a TO-38 module to press it into. There is no good way to use a TO-18 module for this diode.

Agreed. Get the 3.8 copper module. I've done some odd builds but I've yet to use anything but a copper module or large aluminum sink with the correct female press in size.
