I've been looking for some prisms for my lasers and I'm seeing that they come with coatings, different materials and tolerances. I'm not doing any kind of official lab work this is just a fun hobby. I would like to setup a couple prisms, mirrors, etc. Just to move the beam around the table / room I'm working in. I keep coming to Edmunds optics but it looks like serious laboratory equipment which is not necessary for my needs. Looking for items under $50. I would like to work with my 1.2watt 445 and my 200mW 532.
 





Yes I use them all the time. I just didn’t want to get something made from the wrong materiel and destroy it.
 
Problem with the super cheap 'X-Cubes' is the sellers only offer them for 'fun' use. they are incredibly cheap as they are they are NOT PBS in almost every case..X cubes (splitters and combiners) that did not pass QC--and most of the sellers have now clue aside from size..
PBS combines with a cube for red.green/blue-violet.. two go in and both come out combined PBS cubs afaik are always expensive BUT ALAN can find 'less than perfect' and IMHO the price is perfect for these..go look at the prices on optics ay OPT (Poland)

I would buy then test to figure out the coatings used.... trial & error.

..the power you mention are not really high enough to harm the cubes and,of course no harm to your lasers .... but there is hope for us..

I just partnered up with a new-to-ebay guy who had what looked like a VERY nice and a good size at 18mm per side.(for most uses you want that size or larger). AND he tells me he can buy the best of the 'rejects' so he lists his X cubes as 'Very slight defects... I got one from him-- extremely well packed (it was his second ebay sales) it was AFAIK looking very close its perfect- maybe the defect was inside-IDKFS- but other defective/damaged/discount cubes had chips on sides and some on corners...not the one I got. BUT they are not PBS cubes.


I am helping him set up his new store-he is very helpful-has great English skills and wants ideas/advice on items we would like to buy.... I listed cubes of many sizes and degree of defects offer lot of 5 pcs for a discount (I got a bunch cheap long ago and gave them away to buyers of my lasers).. He will list a lot of 5 w/ all 5 sizes. -- He offered to help me do a GB for a larger order AND he lives where almost all these are made-

mybe ALL that are listed come from there... so he should be able to find out more --what coating etc. And that would be a big plus-and there there are the 'C' lenses--prism pairs- F and FL lenses and ones we have not heard of. (yet)

The pairs used have been costing builders about $120 a set...
The last cubes I sold were gotten in a GB ~6 years ago- from feeler to paid-for to final delivery was almost two years.. This forums members lack the patience to wait that long -- and there were complaints on the delay from many.. there was a 5 weeks AFTER the money was in the hands of the optics makers.. so even at a group buy the cubes coated for combining very high power of 445 lasers. Tested for hours w/ 25W-- they could have bought direct-waited very little time BUT the cubes would have been $120.. we got them for 1/3 of that/.. they are being used right now for dual 44 builds.
Mine are gone- last place for these is ebay- 50usd FREE$HIPPING-

AND afaik he only has a few left- and unlikely there will be another GB by him.... BUT we may be able to do that if you give me enough time to test..subscribe to this thread and I will likely start my own thread after the OP has what he needs. I will BRB with a link to the new China X-cube seller. From my experience IF these were really defective-- I would not pay more than $5 per cube-- but these are a few grades better no doubt. PM me directly to get on my wanters list

If you are looking for prisms and first surface mirrors just for fun, go to eBay and look at the different types offered there. You can get a pack of twelve dental mirrors, which are first surface very cheaply. You could pick up a few prisms and mirrors for less than $30.00. That is more than enough to get you started.

If you want to use them to combine lasers send me one and I’ll run the curves on the dichro for you
 
It is a dichromatic mirror that passes some wavelengths while reflecting others. They are used to combine colors of lasers to make the illusion of other colors. Mostly used to combine red, green and blue to make white lasers.
 
OH YEA! and from here its mo betta- I am enjoying this big time.
I feel like a good friend came to me and was going to China (say for school) AND he would be living in the China city where much of all optics are made- AND offered to 'go $hoppng for you.... make me a list:

Ebah name blab1391- he (Alan)has just three optics listed- I only mentioned Prism Pairs (for beam correction) AND the next DAY- he found and listed the 'mirrored' prisms in two sizes auction- free$hipping always -- and if they cannot be used for dual etc- they will be awesome for our resident Pros--bruce/lew and many many more-- cubes/prisms like FSMorrors-defrac gratings etc are used a lot for this-- and the best part-- Alan knows where to get the near-perfect 'rejects' WTH? Icannot find ANy flaw in my 18mm from alan- AND somehow his package (WELL be) get to Texas quicker than any (except express) other from there.
I had tracking less than 3 hours of winning-- yea he is eager- great engish- I like what he is doing too.
Showing Family he can made this store work-- his lady has some items listed there-- you will see- amoungst all that lady stuff are Alan's listings.. Messg him from ebay- NO Email addys there-- its a Ebaitch rule. He knows we would like to see LOT of 5 pcs same or five sizes of near perfect cubes. He now has pics of the other sources of optics and can try to get you what you want.
1) lots of 5 pcs for a discount

3) help us do GBs
4) help us do a custom order of some kind.
5) he will look for good deals on 'stuff we need to do lasers' like the LED USB endoscope CHEAP at $14- Alan may find case deal.
6) safety glasses- NOT the crap but also Not the $300- send /sent him links to for$10.25 all visible colors- then two others GB and Red.
Until I got my spendy eagles I used more than one at a time- wore two diff eyeware. slightly safer.
7) Brass cube/dichro mounts- prism pair mounts - we like 10mm.
8) Hmmm new mantoys-- quads.. good quality drones for half prices (discontinued models)
9) needed drone parts like 3 blade props- big improvement of two bladed. and more drone stuff.. you tell us what you want via me or see Alan.. I get the feeling he/they are soon going to be very busy.
 
You can try diffraction grating. For low power you can buy cheap plastic ones for "home science experiments". for more power I suggest using ruled reflective grating from some old, used spectrometer
 
I have piles of laser projector optic assemblies. They have all sorts of mirrors and lenses inside. Just pay shipping and I can send you some.
