pre-order phr803t 18$ sold out #2

Re: pre-order phr803t 18$ read first post for upda

I just did my fist extraction today :). I was really worried about shattering the window or dropping it. For me the hardest part was snapping the heatsink off, The stupid pliers kept slipping but it worked out eventually. I got the diode inside the module (Took almost a half hour because I wanted to make sure it was perfectly straight) and after that I was able to take the little PCB off without heat. I used a pair of wire snips and a razor blade and it all came off cleanly. I will start building my first BR soon!

Thanks drew!

Yeah, i was careful only dropped it 2 times on a hard floor but it survived. but no for long at 380mA [smiley=evil.gif]

Re: pre-order phr803t 18$ read first post for upda

lol wow 380 is the highest ive heard anyone running them at.

yes i also found the diodes are a bit tricky to remove from their housing... i take 2 pliers and carefully grab both sides of the housing, then break it in half.

but for removing the PCB, what i do is get a large ball of molten solder on the tip of the soldering iron... then carefully drop that ball in the middle of the 3 diode pins. at the same time you need to lift both sides of the PCB straight up and it strips the pins clean on the way up. all the solder stays on the PCB and i end up with a very clean diode and pins.

That sounds like a set of "helping hands" holding the diode [highlight]AND three hands [/highlight]dropping and lifting.  :o

How do you "drop" AND lift BOTH sides of the PCB at the same time?

Pic's -- video?

Peace,

Re: pre-order phr803t 18$ read first post for upda

i went to radio shack and found a "helping hands" tool that has 2 dragon clips with adjustable arms.
one clip holds the diode, one clip holds one side of the PCB... one of my hands holds the soldering iron with a big ball of solder about to drip off... then my other hand has a pair of pliers holding on to the other side of the PCB.
works alot easier than it sounds

Re: pre-order phr803t 18$ read first post for upda

i suppose i could also use the 2 dragon clips to hold both sides of the PCB, then pull down on the diode with pliers as you drop the ball of solder. but i would be more likely to drop the diode that way.

I do have some more sleds to extract from, i will try to get a video up tonight

Re: pre-order phr803t 18$ read first post for upda

i usually just use some fine flat edge dikes and cut the board away from the pins that way it doesnt get effected by heat at all while extracting.

also a good hint to do when you break the heat sink apart just grab the metal with some pliers on each side and do the normal twist trick but to add an extra safety measure/precaution just wrap it up in a towel or shirt so the diode doesnt have a chance to fall or shot off and break

ndrew2505 why do u hate me now ? bc i told u i didn't get my sleds from the first run ? and now u won't sell me any from this batch lol

You ran the 803T at 380mA :o [smiley=evil.gif]

You will soon be put on the "Do not sell Diode to Name List" [smiley=evil.gif]

hate is such a strong word. i think dislike is more appropriate.

sounds like an interesting idea on how to remove the PCB, please post the video if you make one :)

I'll take them Andrew.  I've use up three of them in the last two days.

And I think I'm using another one tomorrow ;)

Peace,

Re: pre-order phr803t 18$ sold out

done. i checked the tracking and they left montgomery today so i should have them by sat. at the latest. to the ppl that ordered modules: i have about 15 here and im waiting on a shipment from aixiz before i can ship the rest. all packages should ship by mid next week as long as there are no hang ups.

i am ordering them later tonight if they still have stock. i got the other sleds today and have inspected them all. they look a little worse for wear than the last batch but all the diodes and diode glass(of 1 where the epoxy was broken) are all intact. ill start printing shipping labels in a few minutes.
