Power meter

I thought I read somewhere the lasercheck could be taken apart to replace the battery? But I had no idea it had problems with melting...good grief.
 





it's made out of black plastic. what do you think happens to it when you stick it in the path of a high powered laser?
 
Ok, I get it, and I had not even thought about that. :P I suppose it could be prevented by putting something around the end that would reflect the beam. But one should not have to. For what they charge for it, one should not have to make any modifications to it.
 
Well... I agree with you. The LPM is very much the superior unit, but I am torn as it does not measure all wavelengths equally. :-/ For example, I wouldn't be able to measure the output of my BluRay laser or the HD laser.

Either way, I will be buying a power meter capable of at least 1W very soon. Be it the lasercheck, the LPM, or the D4thing. :) ;D

Also, Robin of Die4Laser replied saying that some of the units have been sold already and he cannot sell us all 10 of them, he has 3 right now for $220 including shipping. ;)

A lasercheck also won't measure them correctly either... any type of silicon sensor won't read every wavelength right unless it has a toggle setting for calibrations. You need a calorimeter ( to meause the exact amount of energy ) to measure everything correctly.

The GREAT thing about the lpm-1 is that it is programmable. when 405nm stuff catches on a quick visit to tony for an update to the calibration menu is all that is needed to update it and add in the new value.

truth be told, though the 457 setting would probably be close enough to read the correct power to within a percent or so.

laser power readings are ballpark estimates as it is. if you need superfine and accurate resolution you got to have a several thousand dollar meter, and a tens of thousands of dollars laser to actually be able to control the output so precisely.
 
Are you advising me against the D4Thing? :-?

I'm confused and I honestly don't know which way to go... I thought I had an idea what I wanted, but I don't think I can choose now... :-/

Actually... for the LPM, wouldn't it just be easier if we knew which photodiode Tony is using? I'm sure the specsheet will give more than enough accuracy for reading the 405nm lasers. The curve is probably all that is needed!

Ok... so, is it just me or is Tony no where to be found? I sent him a message almost a month ago and still nothing heard from him. I also have noticed he's not online and there are no posts by him on CPF, CPFMP, or the Holo-Forums since late July! I hope he's okay... :-?
