Thanks! Yeah, that one was just one I found on Google :)

I checked it out today & it looked pretty good! I need to clean it a little, but first glance it was perfect. Much better then the cop car :p

Re: First Car

Never hurts to have someone who knows cars to look at it with you. And if you don't know anyone a lot of shops will check it out on the cheap (seller willing of course). Only $10 here at Firestone for a complete vehicle check. We get a lot of people that bring in potential purchases. Not trying to advertise my job or anything. Just always good to know what you're getting yourself into if you plan on buying a used vehicle. Don't want to buy someone else's problems.

Yep. These are my steps prior to buying a used car:

1) Go & check it out, see if I like it. First glance.
2) Take it for a test drive, see how I like driving it.
3) Get it inspected at a garage(if I still like it)
4) Buy if it passes with none/minimal work needed to be done

:)

Re: First Car

Car shopping can be such a pain but you do have some good logical steps. You may want to do some on-line searches for that make and model to see if there are any major know issues with it.
BTW, did the dog christen the tire?!?

Hey Laser Chick!

Yep, when I find a car I like I always do research on YouTube & on people who've owned this car in the past. Apart from the MPG, many say it's a reliable car :D

Dunno about the dog lol.

Re: First Car

FULL TIME MECHANIC HERE!!! looks great! any underhood shots?

motor? year? model?

Re: First Car

My recommendation is if this is your first car, go to the local "Pick n Pull" type junk yard. I always recommend looking to see if you can find parts vehicles. The last thing I would ever want to do is buy a vehicle I can't get parts for. That's just my two cents. Used cars tend to have problems that need to be fixed.

Thanks for the heads up! Yeah, I always take Used cars to the mechanic before buying to make sure it runs well!

Speaking of which, the SUV it at the mechanic right now :D

Congrats, a first car is a big thing! See what the mechanic says, definitely 100%, always, get the car on a lift to check out what's down under.

I just bought myself a used toyota camry, and at first was going to spend a bit more on it, but after getting it to the mechanic it turned out it needed 2k in repairs. With that estimate in hand the seller and I basically split the difference, saving me quite a bit.

As for parts, whenever dealing with a used car it will always be an issue. Especially now days, manufacturers stop making spare parts after a certain time, and price on parts that are not sold use goes way way up. Bottom line is, if someone is selling a car, there is a good reason for it. Gas mileage could also be the reason... an SUV is great until you have to fork over $50+ on every fill up.

Thanks IE! Yeah, gas on these things is pretty expensive indeed. I guess this is when not having a social life comes in handy :D

You'd think that, but as someone else who isn't super social, the mileage does add up fast!

Also, statistically speaking you're almost guaranteed to wreck your first car. Happened almost everyone I know, including myself (though I wasn't at fault), so don't get too attached.
