*Possible* Cheap Pre-built LD Driver!

ok, new to all of this so... which one would I get to safely run one of those 16x sony laser diodes?
 





You could use either one since they are both adjustable. It depends on if size is important to you since the EU-37 is a lot smaller than the EU-38. The EU-37 can put out 200ma's. This is more than enough to run the GB diodes. I like both of them. The EU-38 will be adequate to power the more powerful diodes that we will no doubt see in future GB's, since it can go as high as 1.2 amps with proper heat sinking.
 
Which pins on SenKat's diodes are The Anode and Cathode? From the ron's site, he says that the pin furthest from the other two is the Anode, yet some other sites say that that would be the Cathode. Which one is which? (I am going to get the EU37)

Above was a text picture... Imagine those dots as the pins and the words pointing to them to be the lebels.

The wires will be put to the Cathode and Anode. I will be using two AA 1.5V batteries.
 
On the red diodes - picture it like this :

Now, the Asterisk is the negative pin - the one that is grounded to the case

The pin that is on the left (7 O'clock position) is the positive leg, and the pin on the right is the photo-diode feedback, and is unused. This all ASSUMES that you have the pins facing you, with the grounded pin facing up. I normally cut the PD pin about half way so I do not get it mixed up with the others ! I do not cut it ALL the way, since there is a chance the cutters will kinda warp the pin where it cuts it, and it could short out on the case (not good).

You might want to take a look at some comments about this driver board here:

As Sam says while experimenting with it: "...One issue that I've found is that the reference is a zener diode (type unidentified) which probably doesn't have enough current going through it so while the feedback loop has enough gain and current regulation is quite good with respect to laser diode characteristics, the reference voltage changes slightly with input voltage. Thus, I recommend powering the unit from a regulated supply rather than a cheap wall adapter or batteries."
 
I am still interested as well. It will be easy to test these little guys out to determine just how well they regulate current. And then apply them to our applications.

One thing to take into account is that we are VERY small beans to them - sure, a customer is a customer, BUT they are likely dealing in the thousands of orders a day, and are swamped. Have faith, and patience (LOTS of that stuff !) and you will persevere, I have no doubts :-)

If I'm not mistaken, since this board can supply 6.0V as well, it should be able to drive Blue-ray laser diode as well, am I right?
 
ok so, the EU-37 will fit inside the axiz brass case with the 16x sony diode?
 
Am I missing something on the specs of the EU-37?

It only goes to 200 Ma....

I assume that the Photodiode is not required to make this work as well.

If it requires input from a photodiode, I guess a fixed value resistor could be used in it's place..

200 Ma Max current just seems way too low to me.

Size seems to be it's biggest plus.

UH I think (not sure) it's the other way, the ground is - and it looks like this

o . o

. = negative
o to the right of it = positive
 
Rog that is incorrect. Positive and negative are the other way around. The case is negative.
