poroblem Linking to Posts on Threads...

I'm not sure it that will work Avery...

I went to the post from FrancoRob and saw the 'permalink'. So I copied it. Here is what I copied:
[[[ http://www.laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/tutorials-help-repairs/36790-pioneer-8x-blu-ray-bdr-203-a-16.html#post501020 ]]]

It looks like it still says page 16. (because I have 25 posts per page in my default setting)

Jerry, since you have 40 posts per page in your settings, does this new link that I have pasted here go to the graph? I would doubt it. Because it is on page 10 for you...

Avery, if it doesn't work for Jerry, then maybe the easiest answer is to make the default setting of 25 posts per page non-configurable. That way every body has 25 posts per page, and the links will work for all users.
Jay

Edit: Hey you did fix it Avery! I just tested it by changing my settings to allow 40 posts per page. Then I came here and clicked my link that I had saved from my default setting. And it went to the graph that I had posted. It was on page 10 though. :gj:

Hey Jay....

what was the exact proceedure you used to copy that 8X link into your
above post... where did you copy it from...

Jerry

I just went to the post, and at every post there is a 'permalink'. (upper right corner)

I just right-clicked the permalink, and chose 'copy link location'. Then pasted it into my new post...

I've tried that this afternoon and found that you can't link to the Thread you are in..

Here I linked to your Post...

http://www.laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/help-suggestions-administrative-announcements/41255-poroblem-linking-posts-threads-2.html#post539083

I get a "Page not found" error..

But if I link to a post in another Thread it works...

http://www.laserpointerforums.com/l...e-subject-not-woot-check-dude.html#post521925

This also means that a lot of the older links (without the permalink option) may not
work across all the Pages per Post choices...

I'll need to verify that with some of my older posts...

The way I linked to posts in the old forum was to copy the Address Bar at the top
of the browser and add the Post's number (xxx) to the end of the URL like this "#xxx"

That no longer works for all the Posts per Page choices... it only works for the Posts
per Page that you were set to when creating the link...

I think that any member that clicks a link that does not work... should PM the member
that posted the link to correct it...

Hey T-J...
for the different links from the same post with the same name..
all you would need to do is state what it points to..

Prior to this the links said nothing that usefull....

Someone says "Click here to see the Pretty Laser..." and you know
where the link will take you..:)

Jerry

Aaaaahh..OK Thanks Jerry!! I'm a little slow sometimes...:tinfoil:

Donation is going through right now. Thanks for everything Avery :san:

All old links now point to the forum front page. Other users are having this problem too. I think its because of the letter and number that follows the forums web addy now.

yeah this is b/c of URL change i did, needed to do it but now everything is set and shouldn't be any more changes

Who can help me find the the button used to create the thread? I can not find it at any place in the forum. And I have asked the admin. He said he do not know.
Is there any one can help?

Please, don't post the same question in multiple threads ..... is usually considered crossthreading or spam, and if someone (who said Jerry ? :p) see you, they bash you ..... ;)

Just be patient, first or after, someone see your post and reply ;)

If you're talking about the content of this thread, the answer is in the attached picture. To get a permalink to a specific post, check out the post number in the top right corner... In firefox you can just right click it and hit 'Copy link location', or in any other browser you should be able to click it, then copy the text in the address bar.

(edit) In other news, AAAARRRRRGH! When will this site be able to accept files bigger than 800x600???? I've had a >1024x768 monitor for more than ten years now, and my file was only 80kb, which should download in under two seconds on the slowest internet connection GRRRRR
