I got this email today from this one supplier that at this point I'm not even sure how I got into contact with them... They've literally been sending me the nonstop "are you there" spam for the last year, but today I got an interesting one promising a "Osram PLT5 488nm 60mw 5.6mm brand new laser diode unit" for less than 300... I can order one apparently to "test" but I don't personally have the equiptment or knowledge to do that safely... I tried to figure out if this was a rare diode still because it's been a few months since I last logged on but anyways, here it is.

Oh. And I just dropped $900 on one... oh. I can buy it and send it to paul to test...

And hap - Yes. I still like blue better

I just got my paycheck, and I'm still in highschool so that means at the moment no other expenses need to be paid. I'd be willing to buy one and see, how is the safest way to go about this Hap?

Ah, enjoy what time you have left away from constant bills and dealing with companies that don't know how to run themselves. I just entered that world; ain't fun. If they'd be willing to send out a second one at that price, don't hesitate to let me know

They'd be willing to send as many as I order as far as I know  if anyone wants to take the plunge with me, I'm going to respond and see what sort of payment method they are wanting.

I am more than willing to check any diode out for a member here. Just try to remember that it is called spam for a reason. If you send money and it doesn't show up, or worse, it is a common diode.......you've been scammed. If you want to pull the trigger on this I'll give you my address in a PM and we shall see what it is. :yh:

I've sent them an email back requesting further info, I'll update you guys on how it goes.

If you can pay using a credit card or have a PayPal account, it might be worth a try as you should be able to get your money back if it turns out to be false. What exactly does UNDER $300 mean? how much under? These usually got for $1000, but some have popped up on eBay for $900. After they are gone, it will probably be back to $1000.

I'm not sure, they send different prices when you request fewer numbers(obviously...) but it's only been 50-60$ more last time I inquired about one of their diodes. That would mean about 280$ w/ tax and shipping?

You should only pay tax if they come from the same state you are located in. Otherwise, no sales tax. If they quote you a tax, ask why you need to pay if they are not located in your state.

Edit: Noticed you're color blind. Which color blindness do you have? Which colors can't you distinguish?

I just assumed a tax, I haven't gotten any official pricing from them yet.
As for color-blindness, I have mild protanomaly, meaning I can't see red as well. It mostly affects reds, browns, and dark greens but blue and purple are also issues for me sometimes(not purple as in 405nm, I can see that one pretty well ;)

I got the following email back:
Dear Joey,

I understand what you concerned, please check attached data sheet.

Yes, we accpet 1 pcs for testing, this totally makes sense.

PI would be composed upon confirmation from you.

Meanwhile kindly please let us know your company name/address/contacter/phone, as this is must for DHL deliverring.
Though there was no datasheet or anything attached.

Can't say I haven't had that happen even after I told the sender nothing was attached... though only one sample is a bit of a disappointment.

I can only hope this leads to these diodes going down in price even more quickly, though I am going to stick with the one I ordered from existotem. I don't think I'd ever be opposed to having multiples of diodes in this color spectrum.
