PL-E Pro 4W (focusable) 445nm review

Re: PL-E Pro 4W 445nm evolving review

Absolutely awesome laser man congrats on getting it! 4w! Awesome. I love it. My next two are gonna be a higher power 445 and 700mw 532. Great pics too. BTW I always shine my lasers at a black surface to avoid splashing the room in color and it makes the beam pop out for your camera much better. Just a lil idea to consider. Congrats!

Re: PL-E Pro 4W 445nm evolving review

yeah shining at something black helps some, I suppose I could have used a cinder block I have. It won't matter for the outdoor ones, just waiting for the weather to be real nice at night

Re: PL-E Pro 4W 445nm evolving review

Yeah outdoor shots are nice but I like taking mine in a foggy or smokey room and shine onto a black surface to avoid lig ting the room up with splash

Re: PL-E Pro 4W 445nm evolving review

Sounds great!!

PM coming about doing a test on the Pro Tailcap--

Re: PL-E Pro 4W 445nm evolving review

added comparative divergence beam shots at the canyons at night

Re: PL-E Pro 4W 445nm evolving review

I can't really think of anything more to add, If there is something you want to know or some more data I may be able to collect, let me know. this is my favorite laser for now, also the current brightest, by far. it is basically as powerful as the rest of my hand helds combined. I admit, it's a bit scary that anyone can get one of these. I am just glad I got one while I can, if a crackdown is coming. this could be used very maliciously if one so desired, but then again, so could a lot of things. If you get one, please treat it with the respect you would afford a rocket propelled grenade launcher or something of the like. the power is insane, requireing insanely responsible people

Re: PL-E Pro 4W 445nm review

How does the divergence affect beam viewing? If it is about as bad as the Mitsu638 diodes, it would stand to reason brightness would be lessened somewhat, possibly even equal to a standard 9mm 445 build @ 3W.

Great review Shakenawake ! It is an insane diode. Almost spooky scary. It demands your respect. The ones I built using that diode are my favorite lasers. Instantly smoke what they are focused on. You can just focus it on something like some wood, move the beam along and watch the smoke roll off and the charred trail it leaves from feet away. Glad you are enjoying it ! I'll be glad when I get mine !

I actaully was suprised to see the beam stays very bright even without the expander, over quite long distances. it's really not even close to as bad as a mitsubishi, though JL may have done some beam correcting inside of there, perhaps with just the diode and a g lens the results would be worse. as we all know, it takes roughly 4X the power to be 2X as bright. the PL-E isn't much brighter than a 3W, though it is brighter by a little. it is certainly 2X as bright as a 1W

I find it strange that it's so much brighter than 500mW of 532nm. I have a 532nm that does around 150mW and it's just a tad less bright than my Dominator, and slightly brighter than my 1W 445nm... Vision sure is weird.

As always, I gotta ask - can you see the beam on the daytime sky?

no. not under direct sunlight in clean air

it does get strange sometimes with the cameras especially. for example, to my eye, the RPL is roughly as bright as the 1W 638, but only on the thin side of the 638, the wider part quickly becomes less bright than the RPL, yet in my pics, the red beam showed up better than the green. granted in the pic, the 638 beam is edge on, helping it's brightness and hiding the wide ribbon part

It's possible the RPL was not doing 500mW at the time, I did have the battery go dead soon after. even so, the PL-E easily overpowers it, as it does all my lasers

I know 532nm is usually 2x brighter then blue or so.(if I'm wrong please correct me)
So if you can not to see the beam of an 2w 532nm i don't know what to say about 445nm

I hope all those black surfaces are not flammable -- I read of a flame proof curtain catching fire from a laser as it had been treated with something that had made it flammable or had been left unretreated.... had to be proven in court (lawsuit) the suit was dropped when the material from the curtains caught fire in court..it cost them a lot to win the case tho..

Maybe our eyes are just different. I have a ~400mW 638nm and it looks like a 30-50mW greenie, beam wise.

Updated OP with more/better pics and vids. still to come: more outdoor beam shots. I realized this review needs more outdoor beamshots. I may compare it to each of my other laser's beams. stay tuned. I have already answered PMs about this model, I'm glad to help, just stay safe and responsible.
