its actualy being bought from a local computer repair shot called KT&C Tech...

dont be so quick to assume, you too krutz, you both instantly think im ripping best-buy... what i'd like to know... is how you figure i'd get past those security stickers that have been showing up that are like the ones on a 360, they leave residue, and makes it completely obvious its been opened. the only 8x BR burner available localy here at best buy is like 300 some odd dollars, and its external. so im actualy paying $80 for an internal 8X br burner thats "spindle" doesnt spin. so we'll see, like i said. im hoping we wont be so quick to assume next time...

so there.... :na:

lol, anyways, can we get back on topic please? i'll be heading to KT&C in a few hours to pick it up.

i will report back.

@JAYROB - i totaly understand, but thats something to think about someday.... maybe we could work something out for a one time prototype... i'd LOVE my 8x to be direct mounted.

@Dark , so are you the happy owner of an 8x diode now? if so what kind of drive did it come out of?

i didnt mean you personally, Dark. If I had, you would know ;-)
i simply expect people to be old enough (and i dont mean their physical age) to come to their own and hopefully right decision.
I mean the idea in general. if 200$ is too much for someone, he simply shouldnt get a 500mW laser. heck, i cant wait to get mine, but it wont happen too soon.
and those drives are already heavily sponsored by the movie-mafia. no tears here, though.. ;-)

After quite 9 days of silence (relevant to 8x lasers specific info, of course:whistle:) a new member has implemented the owners list! This message just to remember to the 8x owners that some cells of my datasheet are still empty or maybe contain old superseeded data. If you want to implement/update your data, PM me, I'll be happy to add the new info (just also to help LPF members to understand better the 8x behaviour...:yh:)

This little beuty is sporting a Pioneer 8x BDR-203BKS Blu-Ray and 4mm red laser allong with a <50mw DX Greenie.

Does this get me into the club?

I realy like the red from this Pioneer. I currently have it set to 300ma. No LPM so all I can say is how it compares to a Long Open Can. I would say it is just as bright and hot but with a better dot shape and not as noticable of a line. It would be nice to get some tests on it. I can supply a 4mm press fit heat sink with 9mm threaded lens socket if anyone with one if these on hand and a LPM want to test it till death.

Looks very nice sightfx. How solid are the mounts once aligned, do they move at all if its jarred? May we see some beam pics.

Sightfx:
Your assembly shows some interesting solutions: the spring-mounted heatsinks (strong springs, he?) is an excellent idea to help lasers alignment, I agree with Ramsey innovations, it would be nice to see some beam pictures.

As you have surely understood, the 8x owners list scope is to collect useful data to support/help DIY members to realize even better lasers under P.O., heatsinks, hosts, drivers and life point of view. For sure your Laser System is (let me say:D) quite anomalous respect to the standard use: the heatsink differs from those installed in a host, the diode looks to be connected to a far driver (what kind?)... it would be nice to know what kind of focusing lens you have used for your BDR....
If you can supply me these data (driver, lens), I'll be happy to insert you in the 8x Owners List; I think that, in this case, a very interesting info will be the operating life in minutes/hours...:)

Got another BDR on the way for testing, its gunna be in a pocket mini also, will contribute as much as i can. it'l have a nice 405-g1 on it as well ^_^

and the last 8x was a 200 dollar BDR from ebay. this now mentioned 8x was ordered a few hours ago on ebay, and is also a BDR. i cant wait to tear this one apart... i just got the sled on the last one. a friend wanted the remains.

It came :D

Tearing it open today at 3pm when i get my 5 pocket mini's from Jayrob,

I'll be posting my result by the end of today.

Sounds like another 8X to be added to FrancoRob's compilation graph!

Looking forward to your results...

I'll have photos and such tonight, but no readings until John lawsons LPM gets here in the mail ^_^ it was sent priority from california, and im in NC, so im guessing 4 days? we'll see. Wish me luck guys!

Hi Franco,

I would love to be able to add to your data but unfortunetly I have no LPM. I can take some readings using my IR thermometer fitted with the Official Warske Standard Laser Target, Mark I. Acuratacy is said to be +/- 15% so the only thing it could provide is an uncalibrated plot line.

The driver is an RGB board with Analog Modulation designed by Norm. For the Blu-Ray I am using a Jayrob 405-G-1 lense.
