what is the max current for phr803t laser?? (now I have 100mA and i´d like to enlarge it - for burning :eg:)
 





100ma is about what you should run it at for a good long life and plenty of power to burn, however, i myself had wanted more from my 803T's and usually run them at 125ma MAX. Any more than that and i find that they don't like to last that long.
Bottom line, keep it at 100ma, it best to have a laser that can burn then knowing you once had a laser that could burn :P
 
my is at 120ma, i use it with a heatsink from z-bolt, it works great! you should get a heatsink then you can push it up a lil bit.
 
Mine's at 125 mA +/- and in a Jayrob 4171 build, it burns great and has never got even slightly warm.
 
125 with heatsink, 100 without. and use search button first... ALWAYS.

just trust me... lol it'l make your life easier

and the 4171 has a huge heatsink, thats why it doesnt get hot, arch, if you keep it to about a 30 second duty cycle, i bet you could push 150ma. your diode seems stable enough. but its give or take, the duty cycle will play a huge role when set at 150ma.

I may do that, bump it up a bit. I want to get a good lens first though, probably Jayrobs. Just makes sense with that build :) My duty cycle is rather long, 1 to 3 mins at most. It's my first one and I want to experiment a bit but it may be a sturdy freak I've gotten a hold of, got it from Kendall.

Well, COD can be gradual. Damage can occur and you will not notice it until the burns on the facets of the die start to grow with use.
If you push the diode that hard, you may get COD whether you run it for 30 seconds or 15 seconds or even 5 seconds. When you push a diode harder than it is rated for you will decrease it's life. Every diode is NOT created equal. Some can handle high currents and some can't.

It really isn't worth it to get ~25mW more from you PHR when it can only be used for 30 seconds at a time and lasts about a week. Set it at a safe current (<125mA) and you will have an impressive laser that doesn't need such a strict and short duty cycle and will last you years rather than hours.

By the way... I've gotten 150mW from a PHR (after Aixiz acrylic lens). I ran it for 60 seconds. It was just to test the diode and I turned it down to about 120mA afterward. It's still doing 120mW stable for 2 minute burns (after Aixiz acrylic lens).
If you want more power get a 6X. If you want >300mW get an 8X.

125ma with heatsink should give you a good life time and power
 
Better still, don't touch the pot, just get a new 405-G-1 lens. I installed one on my 6X blu-ray and watched the power increase 30%. Plus it's great for burning.

My next PHR build will run at just 90mA with a 405-G-1 lens. Someone on this forum has had a PHR running continuously at that current for six MONTHS without failure.
 
you should get the correct safety goggles. not only will you be protected for burning distances but the goggles will also let you focus it better. blu-rays are naturally tricky to focus but the goggles help this. this has helped many members who thought their laser was too weak
 
not to offend, but why do you want it at 90mA? you gonna use it for 6 months non-stop? Go 125mA and if it break buy another, it's so damn cheap :D

I'd rather build something that lasts. Kinda takes the fun out if it keeps breaking. Besides I have an awesome 6x-based laser already putting out 215mW and have 8x in the works.

You don't need to overdrive PHR's. There's so much stronger out there now. :tsk:
