Does anyone know how long these diodes last (obviously depending on what the driver is at)? I am not sure whether or not to run mine at 100mA, 130mA, or somewhere in between.

Thanks, Baka

If it helps at all, I've got 3 PHRs that've been running at 100-ish mA for more than 3 months. I had one mysteriously go out on me for a while, but after having it cranked up a bit (it was running around the 30mA range & it was tweaked to ~100) it started working fine again (and still going strong).

how much is enough

I have had one running at 100ma for a month on and off burning up all kinds of stuf, and one other at 100ma for a week and it's also running fine. sometimes I know I run them for more than two min at a time but usuly under one min.

peace Pyro... :tinfoil:

As they say, your mileage will vary greatly. I have a PHR set at 167ma and it's still going strong a year later with light use.

Thanks for all the responses! I'll post pics when I've set the driver and finished the build. It's in the custom Maglite host that Jayrob and I have been working on. My greenie is also almost done :D!

i set my phr at 150 mA last year and still lasing. The key is the heatsinking.
I also set one phr at 200mA open can, and still lasing since 1 month

For a good longevity i would go to 140/150 mA no more with a jayrob lens

Thats really high lol. 120mW is considered safe I think I recommend 130mA.

are you saying you have an open can PHR? didnt know those existed.

I have a PHR at 90mA that I've had powered up continuously for just about 6 months. That equates to about 4320 hours. I started it 6 months ago for the purpose of determining lifespan. It is only one diode, and so it could be a freak, but a PHR should live a nice long life at 90mA..

That's good to know, I might want to build a PHR-based laser with no duty cycle. About how many mW is it putting out?

^about 80mW presently, but I haven't checked in a couple weeks. I hadn't seen any degradation as of the last time I checked and I don't anticipate any now.

^Correct. The aixiz module is installed in a z-bolt heatsink as well, otherwise 100% duty would not be possible.

How big is the heatsink? I am planning a Jayrob Pocket Mini build for this, which does use heatsinking. Of course the laser wouldn't be on for 6 months at a time, either.
