Optical Trapping - Real Laser Tractor Beams

Wow I got it to work!
The AW-210 at 263mw works better than the LOC 300mw
I'm guessing because a smoke is denser than with the red?
I had 6 particles trapped a few times! 1 & 2 is more common
Quality of the lens and a very short focal length are key to success
with my 405 Jayrob lens a 1" FL seems to work the best
and the black sharpie tip is the only thing that's worked so far

Success!
I can do it with my LOC 20x and a Aixiz Glass Lens. I'm using the felt tip of a black sharpie and it sure does work! I can get them to stay for about 1 second or so. Also I can adjust the focal length and the particle moves with it! This is sooo cool! LOL. I could never do it before with my many 16x builds but now I can do it no problem. I think I can get it to last longer with static air currents and a closer focal length. I'll try and get a video soon

Try it with your bluray, it may be easier...

My O-like "10mW" bluray pen traps particles easily, more easily than my red LOC at 350mA

Yeah I can do it with my 405nm laser too. So far my record is about 5 seconds.

It's probably more than 10mW then. I have a 25mW 405nm pointer and it cant burn anything.

dern'd if I know. All I'm saying is that my particular BR pen, labeled and sold as a 10mW, pulls smoke from leather, starts pop-caps, and can trap sharpie particles. Lucky me, eh?

LOL
That's really not safe though, some guy gets a "5mW" off ebay and burns someone's eyes out because he's not careful.

In these days it's not safe to buy cheap 5mW laser pointer and be sure that it's safe.
All these pointers are overspec.

I got this to work a few times on my bluray, 6X. i think its at 200mA...is there any trick to doing it better? I just poke a sharpie into it and here and there i luck out and get 3 dots that collide to 1.

Yeah I can do it with my 405nm laser too. So far my record is about 5 seconds.

I have a 6X bluray, my record is "It took too long" i didnt want to damage the laser due to heat.

I move it around at 1:30 and 2:50

This is the coolest freaking thing ever! I just tried it with my blu-ray in a standard axiz housing with plastic lens. Most of the time it is like a short beam, maybe a mm long but sometimes I can get it into a point.

THIS IS SO COOL!:D

Yeah, whatever happened to the good ol' days where a label actually meant something instead of being simple decoration?

what the hell! if I wouldnt have seen the videos, I wouldnt believe you with this! :-)
tried it with 500mW bluray, 300mW red, 100mW green. glasslens with f' of about one inch. smoked paper and a pentip. with doors closed as well as under a small-melon-sized glasssphere. almost no airmovemend in there. after a bit there is smoke in there, the whole beam is visible. I wear googles, but am able to see the smoke in the beam.

not a single time anything remotely like what you posted! *mad*

..static electricity fields, you say..? its raining outside.. maybe its that..

ah, I better re-measure the laserpowers..
