I'm a member of many forums and got used to having them at this one board so I uploaded all of them to my server and created a .txt file with all of the links and IMG tags. I even have search terms so I just open the file and hit F3, then type what smilie I need.

Now I am getting jealous... I think I best get busy on mine.

Hey Gazoo, I tried to light a match today at 30' and it smoked more and more...I thought it was going to light, but after 20 seconds I gave up. Still waiting on the Laser Power Meter. I went back to 20' and it lit in 3 seconds! Man, I don't think I could expect much better. In fact, I am going to mount a different Pioneer 112D open can diode in a Meredith 5.6mm adapter so that when I do the testing with the meter and push it, I won't take the chance of frying this 1st LD! I mean, a 20' match light in 3 seconds? This is better than I expected. Could I expect more?...
Jay

Well you could always try for 21 feet... ;D You do have quite a collection of DIY lasers. Your idea about using a new adapter for pushing the open can is a very good one. I have a feeling you will try to beat my 350mw's when you get it set up and get your LPM-1...lol

roSSco - Even if you or anyone else manage to find a spec sheet for the open cans, I think all of us would be very interested in it.

Re: Open Can with TEC

Hey check out my video of a 20' match light! I got the Laser Power Meter today! Still learning how to use it but it seems pretty user friendly. For a 1 minute test, I got steady readings that stayed in the 240s and a peak of 246.9mW from my Ice Box laser running at 416mA. This is using an AixiZ acrylic lens mounted in a Meredith module. I will be posting with more measurements, as I will be pushing this thing...

Then I changed the wavelength to 660nm ND and using the ND8 filter , I got a reading of 243.6 mW from my Ice Box laser running at 416mA. Nice video! :D

Very nice indeed.. :) Jay...as I recall you have a meredith glass lens too right? Try it and see if your mw's increases a bit. It does on mine but not by much...I think it was 10 to 15mw's.

Gazoo, your are right! I can't believe the difference though! Same one minute test using the Meredith glass lens this time, and it stayed very steady in the 280s! I got a peak of 287.9mW... A difference of 41mW! I guess I may have to leave the glass lens in there and do some more testing and burning...
Update: Although the power level measures much higher with the glass lens, the acrylic lens burns much better. For some reason, the glass lens is harder to focus for long distance burning. (as we had discussed before)...

That was a great idea from tatman! Here's the thread:

I show some pictures of my first cap mod in his thread, but I have made it better since then. Same principal, just a better screw for the cap...one that has a flat head (machined thin) so that it is very secure from the inside of the cap...

wow that is really nice i am going to have to do that with mine when i get it

Thanks

Re: Open Can with TEC - 20' Match Light Video (pg.

Jay thanks for checking it with the glass lens. Mine is putting out very close to 250mw's running at 350ma's. So it makes sense yours would be putting out in the 280's since you are running with ~400ma's with the same lens.

No doubt the acrylic lens is a better burner, but for me the glass lens seems to produce a slightly better/brighter beam.

It sure would be nice if we could find a 350ma cw diode. I still miss mine running with 600ma's...lol. But truthfully I can't complain...for the price we have some powerful lasers using these open cans.

Re: Open Can with TEC - 20' Match Light Video (pg.

I went back and double checked the output of my diode with the meredith glass lens. It is running at 350ma's and puts out a stable 255 mw's....that is a good ma to mw ratio.

That is a nice place to be... Can't complain about 255mW steady! Please make sure to PM me direct when you hear of a better LD! I really don't think these diodes should be pushed much beyond what we are already running them at. I am very happy with my 416mA putting out 287mW with the glass lens. I have tested all my other DIY lasers and have settled on the 294mA neighborhood for the 'sweet spot' for the Senkat diodes. This is using the DDL driver in an MXDL with heatsink and a 4.3 ohm resistor at the LM317. It puts out 208mW steady! Compared with the open can diode in an MXDL at 324mA current putting out only 194.5mW. I have concluded that for the MXDL, I like the Senkat diode better. (only because of the driver/battery set up, fits the first scenario better)

Edit: That was my first impression. Of course the open can is better in the MXDL, it just needed more current than this early test!

Of course, my Ice Box is my favorite! Now I want to try a host for your AMC7135 drivers and using a single battery to run an open can. That sounds more like it! A host using an 18650 huh?
P.S. As usual Gazoo, you were right about the LM317 dropping out with the 3 volt batts...I didn't notice until I got my awesome LPM! The 3.6 rechargeables are good though. Anyway, back to the thought of a host for the 7135 that runs off an 18650...Do you know of a good host for this idea? Because I have the drivers already...

Re: Open Can with TEC - 20' Match Light Video (pg.

Ive heard they are coming out with a 24x dvd burner, it will be around $70 dolors tho, but im sure after awhile somone will end up breaking it and selling it for parts so you can get it cheaper.

I think the diode in it would probably be able to handle 600ma easy, it can probably even be pushed to 800ma.

...lazer... ;D ;D ;D

That's quite a speculation. ;)

Re: Open Can with TEC - 20' Match Light Video (pg.

Sorry Jay but I do not know of a good host for the 18650 battery. :( All I can suggest is looking around until you find something or maybe someone else will chime in here. I am glad you like the open cans as much as I do... ;D

It is true it takes a lot more current to get the same mw's out of them than the SenKat diode, and the comparison graph Daedal posted of the phaser diode shows this. The open can is very much like the phaser diode as far as that graph goes, but I believe the open can is better based on Daedal's reports.
