where can i get open can's in Canada.new egg only ships to usa.also how much ma can it handle for a reasonable life and how many mw will it be.Thanks

Jam --

I believe Gazoo has posted for a long time about the power of open can. I get a safe 300 mW. As for shipping to the North Land -- Look on ebay for the drives mentioned as having workable open can diodes.
This forum is a treasure -- Just search.

i found a dvd burner 20x at tigerdirect for $25.now i just need the information on how to do it

Most people drive them at 420mA by using a 3 ohm resistor with DDL's driver. That should give you around 250mW.

(if the diode is a long open can, what DVD burner did you order?)

Oh ok, if it's an LG then the diode is a long open can, so it should be fine.

There are too types of open can diodes, the short open cans and the long open cans.

The long open can diodes have a longer chip:

And the short open can diodes have a short chip:

The difference between them is that the long one is more powerful than the short one.
One of the diodes I bought from TheMonk some time ago was a long open can and it was taken from an LG 20x DVD burner so I assume yours should be a long open can too. :)

Look right here for a graph comparing a long open can diode with a short open can.

Plus an aixiz module to focus the light from the diode into a laser beam. This guy sells them for 4 bucks only including a focusing ring. I bought 3 a few weeks ago and he seems to be a good seller, I wouldn't advice buying his diodes though due to the price and since we don't know if they're VL diodes or diodes from SenKat's bad batch.

EDIT: You didn't have "lens" when I first looked at your post. ;D
