The resistor is put in series with the diode. I would recommend a 2 ohm .5 watt resistor if you are going to be using a minimag with two cells. The electrolytic capacitor goes across the diode. The recommend value is a 47uf 16 volt capacitor. The capacitor will be marked with the negative side. The negative side of the capacitor gets soldered to the negative side of the diode, and the positive side of the capacitor to the positive side of the diode.

This will provide some protection.

This message is mainly for Gazoo but anyone can answer I couldnt find any 47uf capacitors from radioshack.com but i found one on ebay its called "16V 47uF Radial Capacitor LXZ Series 5x11.5" is this the right sized capacitor? Thanks

heres the auction link for the capacitor http://cgi.ebay.com/16V-47uF-Radial...yZ111603QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

You stated the reason there are none yourself. you were looking on rat shack. No wonder. Look on a real electronics store, not rat shack or fleabay.
Just find the closest possible size cap. Higher rather than lower, and the voltage raating needs to be at least double the power supply voltage.
And mods, how come he can post a link with only 10 posts?

The minimum post count has been decreased to 10.....take a peek at some of the other threads on here :P hehehe (sorry, had to !)

As far as my promised update - I have not heard back from my new distributor yet, so I am unable to sell more diodes YET. I hope to hear back tomorrow, in which case I will be posting more info...

G !

New here and glad to hear about the group buy!
I have a green 50mW pointer but wanted to play with the red and was just about to pull the trigger on some eBay DVD burners.
I'll wait for the new posting about more group buy diodes!
Sure glad I joined up and started reading!
Thanks!
:)

Thanks for the welcome!
Man, you are not kidding!
Glad I've kept up my soldering skills!
Sad to say I need the reading glasses to do the close up work now days...not to age myself or anything... ;D

I guarantee you, you are not alone...I use all the soldering aids at my disposal...reading glasses, helping hands, sometimes a magnifying glass... ;D

Any news yet on the new batch of diodes coming in or for sale?
Thanks in advance!

... all you old fogies shouldn't be handling a hot soldering iron. :P i just use teh helping hands to hold stuff still and take off ma glasses (i short sighted) to do small stuff. 8-)

Patience is the best practice with these things. It takes a very long time to get things to come or go anywhere in the laser business, and as such it takes longer for them to get to the 'final destination'. ;)

I'm sure SenKat is doing all he can possibly do;

Thanks Daedal for the update.
I'm in no hurry.
I was just wondering if there were any in stock or up for sale right now. I just wanted to get one to play with till I harvest one from an old DVD drive.
I'll keep checking the forum for updates.
Thanks!
:)

I received my diodes today.. :) They were postmarked Sept. 5th.

This is in no way Greg's fault, but first class mail sucks and I think it is getting worse. I had the same experience when I ordered some batteries from Florida. I am in SC, and it still took at least 5 business days for that order to get to me. So anyone still waiting, I can sympathize with you, but the diodes will get to you eventually.. ;)

Gazoo -- Only 5 days ???

They must have found someone who can read the addresses down there ;D ;D :D ;D Hell, It takes 3 days to move a piece of mail 15 miles up here - but only if the mule cooperates :)

Mike

uhrm... 6 days u mean? or have i got myself confuddled with the annoying timezones again... :-/
