No Longer FS: "The Beacon" 1,700mW 446nm Build

I love the way this host fits in your hand, while still providing a nice large heatsink volume. It runs on 2x 16340 or 2x 18350 (rechargeable 3.7V lithium ion IMRs recommended) and runs on a custom 1085-based driver. It comes with a 3-element glass lens and a custom focus adapter. It spectrometers at 448nm. It LPMs at 1,700mW on my LaserBee, and peaks at 1,800mW on my Ophir (during the first 45 seconds that aren't captured on a LaserBee USB 2.5W model).

This laser's purpose is to produce a variable focus blue beam of coherent light that is highly visible, in as many various lighting and environment conditions as possible, by observers in both near proximity and at a distance to the beam.

You MUST NOT be a resident of Canada
You MUST own laser protection goggles appropriate for this wavelength, and
You MUST be over 20 years of age, and
You MUST be familiar and experienced with the appropriate safety precautions to take with lasers of this power.

This is not a laser pointing. At all times, protective laser safety glasses appropriate for this wavelength must be worn by the operator. This laser should not be used around 3rd parties (non-operators) pets, or for any recreational purpose.

This laser's purpose is use as a laser light source for LPM (laser power meter) sensors and meter system calibration. In order to ensure the most reliable calibration for your system, it is prudent to use multiple calibration lasers, representing multiple wavelengths, as well as multiple output powers, spanning the range of an LPM sensor's working detection range.

Dang! Why do I never have money when something like this shows up? Nice host, is there any way to get it in black?

Re: FS: "The Beacon" 1.7W 445nm Build

You always put these up when I don't have the funds.

I have a XM-L flashlight in that same host (but black). In case anyone was wondering, the head is 44mm wide, and the host itself is ~148mm long. It is a pretty nice looking host design, in my opinion. The walls of the light are thick and the whole thing feels very sturdy.

Good luck on your sale, rhd. This would be a cool laser to own.

Makes me sick to my stomach I just bought an S3 Arctic for 275 from a guy on FB.
Its more powerful than the one I bought from WL over a year ago but its still not 1W :(
I know this wont be around in 2 weeks for my paycheck!

Awww bummer, sorry to hear that. Well the Arctic still looks cool :)

One day I'll probably bite the bullet and grab one just to see what the fuss is all about.

Yep, I've seen it in black also.

It is a really really solid host. It's a pretty unique design too - I really like it. It fits my hand perfect. I like the concept of have a large head for heatsinking, but still a slender body. It's pretty neat - and the heatsink is good and large which is great - I would imagine the duty cycle would be fantastic. I may do a duty cycle test this afternoon.

That day has come - turns out I have an Arctic en route now. Going to be interesting to open it up and see how a Wicked is built.

You bought an Arctic new? Or where from?

No no, of course not. Have traded a build for an Arctic. Worst case scenario, I'll use the host and mod it into a higher quality build :)

Sorry to intrude in your sales thread, but can you jot down a few step by step guide on building this laser?
It looks totally awesome but I want to gain more experience from building lasers. Plus, I just haven't got the money. *sigh*

Thanks! And sorry again for intruding.

I wouldn't know how to begin with a task like that, so why don't I make an alternate suggestion -

Start reading up on the forum. There is more (many times more) than enough info in order to get started with building. Once you're well versed in the resources this forum offers, if you have a specific question about something involved in this host's build that is different from what you'll find in the tutorials already out there, I'll help step you through it.

Re: FS: "The Beacon" 1.7W 445nm Build

PM me re: purchase OK

Re: FS: "The Beacon" 1.7W 445nm Build

FYI - though a few people have PM'd about wanting this, the build is still technically unsold.

Re: FS: "The Beacon" 1.7W 445nm Build

Greetings,

Looking for a laser lke this one but likely too late for this. PM me......
