NJG-18, multimode boost driver for 445nm.. and possibly 650nm






If you take the (-) from the the case (battery) then the modes are bypassed.
 
Yes. The modes on most flashlight drivers are actually on the negative side, and can be bypassed by connecting the LED or LD negative straight to the battery/case instead of to the driver.
 
What about how it goes through the modes, Like high-med-low, suppose it stores a value in the flash memory each time it turns on changing the modes or what?
 
Er, what about it? When you bypass the mode circuitry entirely by connecting the negative to the battery, the mode stuff is irrelevant. It's not even electrically in the circuit anymore, whether its still operating or not. . The NJG18 just a CV regulator then.

I'm just asking in the event of making a multi-mode driver that doesn't require a button to turn on the light and a second button to change modes.

Just trying to figure out if, in this case the NJG driver ALWAYS starts out in say high mode or if it starts out on the next mode after the one you last used, if that makes sense.

I don't know of ANY drivers that work that way anyway. They all don't require a second button... so I'm not sure what the issue here is?

This is just a flashlight driver - it works the way almost every other mode-driver for flashlights works. The modes pickup where you left them.
 
Yes the NJG has a memory.. as do every other flashlight driver i've seen. They start in the mode they were last in when turned off.. Unless modes are disabled.. then you get high.. and that's it.. no other modes, period.
 
When your asking for Current controlled Current source (CC) at 1.5A out, fitting it on something smaller than a penny is hard enough. If you want a CC at 1.5A out + modes....+ smaller than a penny... yea.. i'm not going to be doing that with my first design.... =P . Whoever is welcome to 1up my design if he can do it. However, if it were the size of the bigger flexmod driver, then sure it would be easy to do.

I doubt mine will have modes either. though i'm not shooting for microflex size.. just a 17mm disk to work in the sipiks.. I'm not particularly worried about trying exceed 1.5A either.. that's about the upper limit of what i'd recommend in my sipik hosts anyway.

Gotta Have goals folks, even if they are somewhat beyond reason yet so long as they are not ridiculous.

Besides right now I'm trying to draw out the schematic for the driver that came with my green diode from sparkfun, its an op-amp current source with a claimed max of 300ma, and change it to 1-2A range then go from there, and I think its a good starting point since it can fit in a aixiz module.
 
Your not going to get 2A out of an opamp. At least not 'just' an opamp'. I'm actually fairly surprised you can get 300mA out of one unless it's driving something else. I've used them for low power LED's before but 50-60mA is usually all you can source reliably from an op-amp itself. At least common ones anyway.

Yep, my lack of explaining, it drives a npn.

I'll post a schematic as soon as I get it laid out properly, right now I have some pins that haven't been assigned a connection point.

Yep its the current sink with a few extra parts, having a fun time trying to get this program of mine to let me do 3.7v @ 1A in so I can see the out put.
