Probably right, just some regular run of the mill quartz , would be a pretty big ruby... wrong crystal structure and cleavage anyways, should of looked twice haha
the guy is from south Africa, i've seen some pretty exotic minerals come from that part of the world..
I bought one of these not too long ago from this site as a gift for my geologist fiance. Although they are man-made double terminated, not naturally double terminated quartz. She was thankful for the gift, but did enlighten me of this fact.
Just let me know if anyone wants a similar crystal... I got a bunch and the importer, a pal, is getting more at good deals all along. (these are about $5 per inch of length, and I chose w/ a green laser so, I see which light up nice.) -Glenn
