Newbie looking for a laser projector - help!

OK so now I have my laser:

Laserworld CS-250RGY 250mw RGY Laser ILDA DMX Laserworld CS-250RGY 250mw RGY Laser ILDA DMX - Buy Online - Lasers > Lighting and FX

I think this will do everything I need, it looked like a better build than a lot of what I saw on Ebay, and I got it cheap. Now I need to get the software/DAC bundle. I've been looking at Moncha and I like that they say it's easy to use - as I said I just want to do a basic show with text and some custom graphics. Does anyone have any experience with Moncha?

Hmm... That projector is only 3 colors (red+green=yellow), and I think with only ~250mW you will need a lot of smoke and a pretty dark venue for the laserbeams to stand out.
Here's a vid:

Riya lite plus laser design studio is about 280 dollar in total, shipped worldwide....
And i can tell laser design studio rocks:)

I decided to get an RGY laser instead of full RGB since the deal I found was so good. I would have loved to get more mW but I think this will be adequate - I'm going to be using it a theater/club setting so I'll have control over the other lights.

I've sent a PM to drlava to get info on the Riya Lite DAC. I'm a little concerned about Laser Design Studio since it appears there is no manual in English. Does anyone have a link to a demo version?

Also, any advice on smoke machines? I've used different kinds before but would be curious to know people's preferences.

Trocks, email or pm him on photonlexicon. He is not that much active here.
The software has help but no fully manual.
Although it comes with shows so its easy to open and learn from them.

also if i am not mistaken with dr. lavas option you essentially need 3 programs... 1- you need a vector art program (adobe illustrator, autocad, etc), 2- riya to convert vector art into ilda frams, 3- spaghetti... i could be wrong but this is what i've read.

Lds has a editor build in, and the 280 dollar includes lld sos...

OK, I now have my laser and my software. One this is missing - the ILDA cable! I thought the laser would come with one but it doesn't. Can anyone suggest a good source?

Look for a straight through 25pin serial cable for a computer - i have two of them, and join them up when I need length, and use just the one when I'm testing at home. Make sure its not a null modem or laplink cable though.

Of course I am not testing anything at the moment - no working projector, but that will change soon with the purchase of the 500mw green in the next week or so.
