new to this and lost lol

well i will get some photos as soon as i get it working,sould i stick with my 7.2 pack or use a lower voltage
 





you're using a linear driver and any voltage in excess of the diode's need (~2v) plus the drop of the driver (~1.5v) will go to heating the driver. around 5v input should be fine. i wish they made 5v batteries
it will work with the 7.2v but the driver will get hot and may need heatsinking.

i will use 4 double a's rechargeables i get a nice 5.4ish off a charge witch is better than they should be by .6v any way got my parts on the way now how long should i use it and how long should i let it rest.just so i dont kill it lol thanks you guys are very helpfull thanks mike
 
a good rule of thumb is turn it off once the heat sink gets more than just warm. looking at the link for the housing i would guess 60 sec on 60 off for this diode.
 
I would also remove that capacitor from the circuit. They usually do more harm than good, and they only exist in those old diagrams because people thought the capacitor would prevent voltage spikes. Usually what happens is that the capacitor accidentally fries the person's laser diode.

Also remember to put your module into a real heatsink. Those 12mm "Aixiz" modules are not heatsinks, and I've burned out diodes from heat using just those because they didn't do a good job of heatsinking.
 
the capacitor to go you think it will help me out ? a real heatsink out of a pc ?
you think its going to need a heatsink.i never know id get that much power out of this.thanks guys im learning a lot

i dont really want to spend anymore right now im going to try and make one but not sure where to find a heatsink thanks mike
 
its still not working im so close to giving up and sticking it on ebay,iv had it breefly for like a second and no light at all
 
i used pliers to hold the diode and was carefull.if any wants to buy this they can as im sick of it.
 
Did you make a dummy load yet? You should build one and test using that so that you know how much current you're pushing through your laser diode.
 
i dont know what a dummy load is.i will google it and see about making one thanks mike
