You should be getting my DOA return shortly. I mailed out Wednesday so it should be getting there today/tomorrow.
The restock was perfect timing
Payment sent yesterday, now it's just a matter of patience Though, I'm sure it will still arrive long before my Arctic...
That is pretty good timing actually hahaha well done. I'll make sure you get a good one as a replacement!
Hey guys, I received my 5mw green laser from Swimminsurfer yesterday and just tried it out ...
It came perfectly packaged (considering it was shipped only within southern California).
When I first popped in fresh AAA batteries the laser was alright, with a bright dot, but after less than 3 seconds, the laser dimmed by a great amount, I'd say 80-90%. This happened a lot, where the same would happen anytime I tried turning the laser on, but maybe after 10 tries, the laser maintained the constant brighter dot... does this signify anything? I am not that savvy with lasers and was just wondering....
I don't think mine is overspec'd, although I have no clue at all.
I compared it to my 5mw greenie from Dealextreme, which is definitely a lot brighter than the one I received.
The thing is that I don't know how overspec'd the Dealextreme one is so I have no way to measure either laser correctly.
Here is a picture, with my old DX laser on the left and the new one on the right:
Although I do wish the laser was a bit stronger or that I could measure its strength, I do greatly thank surfer for his business.
For one, usually they don't do that but since you said the problem stabilized I'd assume the laser was just cold and once it warmed up it worked better. And also judging by that picture I really don't think a 5mW laser should have a dot that bright unless it was really overspec! 5mW pointers are ones you're supposed to be able to use as actual pointers (I.e. lecture halls where you can actually look at the dot comfortably).
I'd recommend investing in a power meter! Its a really handy investment!
what kind of batteries are you using?
If something started out strong but got weaker my first suspicion would be cheap/dying batteries unable to keep up the current output.
My two pointers bought from swimminsurfer256 do the same thing you're describing. It comes on as a bright dot and then dims dramatically. One of them actually turns off and then back on in the beginning.
The two that I bought here are way less bright (beam, dot) than my $5 ebay one. He said he tested about 20 lasers and set aside the brightest for me but it doesn't look that way I guess it's a luck of the draw on which one you get from him and possibly ebay too. He does respond quickly to emails though.
