Hi all im a new member this site.
I current have an arctic laser 1.4w by wicked lasers, are wicked lasers any good??
But I want to know what are the best lasers you can get at reasonable prices. Looking at getting green laser I think.
Also where do I get a good hard case from pelican ??

Try introducing yourself in the Welcome thread, have a look at the companies section too

also read THIS

and welcome to LPF

Get a HeNe!

I recommend HeNes as they are simple, safe, and elegant. I would say a bare tube, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have respect for HV.

If you are interested in HeNe (Helium-Neon ion gas lasers) check out these 2 sources!

Sam's Laser FAQ

My LARGE gas reference thread.

HeNe lasers are my thing for the most part. I have several books on them, and I am finally able to read them! So, if somehow those resources don't explain anything, or you need something defined or some jargon in lamens terms, PM me! I'd be happy to help!

Personally, I don't recommend a high powered laser for your firsts. HeNes are low powered, but there's something elegant about the glow of ionized gases :)

you WOULD say that :p

if you are interested in getting a red laser (650nm) then i may be willing to part with my 300mW 650nm C6 laser for a reasonable price. i personally built it but dont use it ever (has under 5 minutes of use) so figure might as well sell it to fund my next build

Don't knock it til you try it ;) I must admit though, I do have a bias. I just love the little details of gas lasers. So much as a 98-99.5% reflectance value on the cathode end HR can determine so much, and change everything. A 2mm difference in bore diameter, and you've got a multimode laser. I love them :) Planning to get my title changed from "Class 3B Laser" to "Gas Fanatic".
