New Member Questionnaire!

It would thin out the membership to members who really want to be here and learn. Plus it will answer most of the common n00b questions before they even post their first post. It will also weed out window shoppers. If people are serious about buying lasers, then they will join. It really does work.

I think a better Idea would be for a set of questions based on the PROFILE, but a bit more in depth, & keep it in each Members PROFILE SECTION. ?'s like age, how long into lasers, etc. The current PROFILE area leaves much to be desired IMO....rob

lol stop T-Jacking... Asherz why don't we think about what would happen in the exact opposite situation. What about we bombard these noobs with info, so they don't have a choise but understand and read it. I was thinking about this today (yes I think about LPF in my spare time... what you gonna do? once your hooked there's no going back!) and I thought about the log in screen, just after you, sign in, a screen pops up and redirects you... well why not provide links every time some one with ~<100 posts log in?

So for example, Joe Blow logs in 0 post count, He is then linked to the FAQ's, and a few stickies.... After ~20 posts, maybe link to a few of the important threads... etc... Then at around 100 posts (based on my experience anyway) you could link to diode graph PIV's and stuff... so they can gradually work their way up to a full understanding. Now I understand the problem this posses... "but some people don't post much, therefore they don't get all the info"... Well I thought that this might have a positive impact on the forum.. think about it, if we have more proactive noobs who understand and can help out the forum, that is a lot larger wealth of information sources, not to mention more people to help with maintenance costs and also bring about a more close knit community. I don't know about you Dave, but I think that the more people we can get, the better. Heck, when I first started I didn't even know a Aixiz module even existed.. and I'm sure I have helped a few Vets out, since I have been here... see my point? (not an attack, just saying :D)

But just a suggestion... criticise away.. might spark another better idea! -Adrian

I'm guessing you haven't read what I posted up there.

Let's be glad that Asherz isn't a mod :knight:

Why would I want to be a mod? It's just an idea to help the community.

I'm glad some of you are working on the idea, it wasn't set in stone "THIS MUST HAPPEN" I was just curious to see if anyone thought a similar or better system might ADD to the community, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it.

I think my example question threw people a little bit, maybe it was a little hard. TJ seems to be understand the concept of the idea though :)

his idea is a classic case of a know-it-all forgetting that at one time

 I've never claimed to be a "know-it all", no need to get personal :'(

but that is the most arrogant and selfish thing I've read here.

Calm down my friend, this was just an idea, I didn't mean it to insult anyone. And what's selfish about trying to come up with a few idea's? Like I said in my original post I'm not asking to put up questions which NO ONE would understand, just something to help get new members along the right lines.

Working on Bobs idea of having personalised questions, at another forum I'm apart of you can choose to have a little sub name under your user name depending on what your interested in from a list.

Well maybe upon joining you choose from a list your little subname along the lines of what you are interested in doing.

e.g

Laser builder
Laser shows
Rare colours
Occasional pointer
etc.

That way we could have a VERY SIMPLE user quiz on that section.

Please guys don't get wound up by this thread, it's JUST an idea that we can all discuss and work upon, if you think that something won't work don't just say it doesn't, try to add to it :)

Or working on Niko's idea, maybe a quick and easy quiz on the FAQ's? That way it would actually mean they have read them without just clicking the links and going out of them again.

Maybe we should create a "noob tank" and restrict them from posting anywhere else until they meet a minimum post limit...

YIKES !!!!!!!!!!!! :tsk: Doesn't it ?????

Hmmm...The words on the front gate to Auschwitz said "Work makes one free". Kind of makes sense in a horrific, dark, morbid, twisted way. LMAO
