New host design feeler: GE-X1

I am declining heatsink orders this week and previous one, so I can clear out time to get these done. First two are going to the people who payed for tooling, Daguin and RBC.

I agree with that 100%

Looking forward to seeing this. Will be nice to add a decent size host to the collection.

Well I can say that, after what's-it-been, 16 years, I am finally commencing production.

Estimates are that I should have first one done by the end of this weekend, if not maybe Monday.

So yeah. Can't wait, actually.

At the very left.. the battery's shadow isn't right. Will that happen in real life?

Yes it's correct, the battery is floating above the ground some inch or two.

Unfortunately DX is freshly out of stock on floating batteries, so you're going to have to settle for regular ones I'm afraid.

Also since the thread's been bumped, one GEX host is nearing the end, word from home is, it'll be done today.

LOL, "great one". Flattered, but, don't call me that :o

Me too, they should be taken and sent when the host's done, I'll have my dad do that ASAP, also I should personally inspect the functionality when I get home before shipping it off, making sure all the components fit as I planned for them, batteries fit, threads are right and everything.

So is the initial presale back in 2012 still the original numbers? Or will we redo the presale?

Heh I dunno, but I do seem to see some interest, regardless I'm making these available.

It might be a good idea just to post who is STILL interested in buying any. First two that are made, as I said, go to daguin and RBC, how many more should I plan on making?

Apparently these aren't THAT difficult to make as expected, they actually take bit less time than Phobos, even though they're larger they are actually simpler, fewer steps needed.

Lookie lookie...

Standard brushed aluminium finish:

The tailcap inside:

It will fit your standard DX switch. I didn't press any into this one yet.

A battery barrel with 26650 cell in it:

It will obviously fit 32650 very comfortably, as well as 18650 with adapter and 2x 16340 and 2x18350 combinations easily.

The head, with the driver socket visible:

It further takes apart into two:

Head alone:

Imagine a focus adapter up there.

I will only need to widen the 14mm DX switch port for about half milimeter, and that's about it. I have tried and seen that the standard 16mm board will fit normally into the socket (needs to be pressed in there very hard, didn't do this on this host yet), there's quite enough room for wiring, and any module. Also, square drivers will fit into the top part of the driver section, here:

So yeah, here we go. Dream becomes reality.

Official production time is 3 days for each host (technically 3 afternoons because of dad's job).

Now, since both Daguin and RBC payed for tooling in equal parts, could you two guys communicate and agree on which of you is the first to recieve their host? I have a new bulk order from Blord to make before the second host, he already payed for it so I'm obligated to prioritize it.

Let me know what you think. I'm also welcome on any ideas.
