Hello guys,
does anybody know what is inside in Neje 40W ?

Im quite new to lasers, but i build two 3D printers and now i want to build laser engraver/cutter. At first i was looking at CO2 lasers, but the tube is quite large, so i want to start with something smaller. So laser diode is way to go. From china manufacturers Neje is only one who is giving optical power output in description, but i dont know if i can trust that...

Maybe you can recommend me some other solution or some DIY solution which will be cheaper with same performace?

So i got some new info.

I asked NEJE (aliexpress.com/item/1005001715885095.html ) what kind of laser source is used and they told me that they use 2pcs of 7,5W diodes in 40W model.

If you look at the data it shows 7500mw optical output.

Whats wrong with CO2? It's cheap, the goggles are cheap, its easy to maintain
 
I remember laserbee tested a 15000mw unit like that and it wasn't even close, it did 4600mw and was a de-canned diode, likely on 08.
Really 5000-7000mw is as much as you will get and that's over driving a nubm44 if you are lucky, more likely it's a re-canned nubm08 or a de-canned nubm08, last one I saw tested was a de-canned 08 and they won't last but a few hours of total run time.

Pulse driven NUBM44 ?

If you are talking about the LPC-816, 826, 836, 840, then yes they do claim that. But, we typically drive them CW 300 mW to 400 mW. Since we are over driving these to their limit already, I don't see you getting more out by pulsing them.

If you keep in mind the highest output laser Diode is the Nubm44 which can do around 7.5 - 8 Watts that will give you an idea what's really going on.

A 15 Watt Optical output will be at a 50% Duty cycle. The "PEAK" output is 15 Watts. But the average is still 7. 5 Watts.

And a 20 Watt Optical Output will be with a 33% Duty Cycle. The "PEAK" output is 20 Watts. But the average will be around 6.6 Watts.


It's all a Con Job playing with numbers. But then you have to factor in how Chinese Sellers rate their lasers. They are generaly much lower than the rated output. Their 1500mw 405's are about 300mw.

I asked NEJE (aliexpress.com/item/1005001715885095.html ) what kind of laser source is used and they told me that they use 2pcs of 7,5W diodes in 40W model.

Some other manufacturer on Aliexpres (aliexpress.com/item/1005001783179514.html ) told me that they use only one NUM44 for their 40W model.

And i found 50W model on Ali (aliexpress.com/item/4000248763749.html ) and they are using 5pcs of diode but didnt say what type it is.

Yes, the 40W is a dual diode setup, though they are not too happy by informing which LDs are in the array, my guess its Nichia A0.
NEJEs high-end lineup with 20w and 30w should be the A0 on my testing.
and I doubt that you will get anywhere close to the rated 15 optical wattage,, my guess is around 8 to 9.5watt and that is based on the 20w and the 30w where you need to cut their claimed values with 1/3 in regards to 20w = 5.5w and 30w = 7.5w.
Their latest blower sink design is precarious, though not sure if it's loose screw-in barrel design or its a diode press fit..?

The slim narrow 20watt NEJE labby with two PWM & TTL boards, both of these signal-boards also works with the 30w, though way easier to control with a cheap DDS signal generator like FY6900.

One need to have in mind these Labby's is solely intended for intensive CNC laser-work and they are obviously run very conservatively, so you will not get anywhere close to a diodes max ratings, far from it..
so on the 20w/5.5w and 30w/7.5w cut the claimed with 1/3
If I bypass the driver (20w with claimed 5.5w optical) I can peek at 6479watt. with 5.1A from linear PSU, though 4.95A at the diode and the 30w/7.5w are not gonna change that picture, same LD AFAIK.

So the question is - is it worth the price?
Or should i build something myself?
 
They must be PBS combining the two diodes? Anymore, it appears the sellers are specifying the input power to the diode(s), and letting customers assume the power is the optical output power which is complete bullshit.
 
I've seen my fair share of these kits on Taobao. They seem to be rated based on Input power draw, to make the numbers look bigger. There is no way in hell they are getting a single diode to reach 10W+ CW without some exotic engineering solutions.

Dual diode setups seem like an easy way to achieve 10W+ output power (Dual M44), but that also requires beam combining cubes/ mirrors to achieve. Might not be a good idea since any vibrations from the surroundings are capable of knocking those optics out of alignment.

Edit: Didn't see alaskan's post before replying.

But yeah IMO it's better to build your own rather than buying those.
 
I have one of these duel heads in a machine. It will write on a stone and cut like advertised. O was also able to mark stainless steel razor blades using just the laser686373590456.PNM.jpgby itself.

The Chinese don't have access to NUBM44 diodes. They push their 5 watt NUBM0whatever diodes as 20+ watts and it's complete BS.
