ok im new here and to lasers, ive been trying to get a 100mw blue laser to work, but when i hook it up nothing happens. ive checked all the connections and it seems to be fine. if i can get a resistance reading through it then it should be all connected right. but the laser doesnt work and i have never been able too get it to work. the driver im using says its for a red laser does that really matter, or is my diode fried?

Your going to need to provide more information, driver, diode, and power source. Be as detailed as you can.

Why would you hook a red driver up to a "blue" diode? Just wondering, and also your post is to vague to help you'll need to post more info. Welcome to the forum.

The driver data are:
Input voltage :4-6V
Output voltage :2.5-2.8V
Output current::150-350mA

The diode requires 5-6 volt and the driver eats something like 1.5-2.5V or more.

It sounds perfectly reasonable that it has never worked.:whistle:

what do i need to do to get it to work or will it never work with this setup.

Your setup does not work, it is possible that you have also broken the diode with wrong polarity. The datasheet does not specify the polarity.

You need a driver that will go up to 5-6V in output, or you can make it yourself with a LM317.
Search the forum for driver drawings, it is amazing what you can learn here. :)

thank you for your advice i was trying to avoid building a driver but i guess when all els fails do it yourself right, is there a way to test the diode without a driver

Not really, a DMM applied with correct polarity can tell you if it is open circuit, but not if it is LED'ed.
(Wrong polarity will likely kill it)
