Need Help Getting Wireless Internet on a Desktop

I have a Linksys wireless router up and running and I got a wireless internet USB adapter for Christmas. This is the adapter I got from DX:

DealExtreme: $10.68 Creative-I/O 802.11g/b Wifi/WLAN 54Mbps USB Wireless Network Adapter

Unfortunately it came with a mini CD type thing, which I highly doubt was software, which means I have no drivers for it. So I can't use it! Is it even possible to run one of these mini CD's in a regular CD drive?

Is there a way to get software/drivers for this product??? Someone mentioned it used a Zydas chipset, I don't know if that helps.
 





The mini cd's will work in regular drives, notice that smaller recessed circle there in the middle? Notice how it seems to fit in there rather nice? Best of luck.
 
Ok, I've never noticed how the center of the CD tray does indent. So I pulled the CD out of the trash (in my defense, all it had written on it was a picture of a panda and 25 minutes/ 225 megabytes, so I thought it was just a blank CD) and put it into my computer. I had downloaded the drivers successfully, however I then I ran into a major problem:

After downloading the drivers from the CD, and restarting my computer and checking the device driver status it would say:

"The NDSS.VXD, NTKERN.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver. (Code 2.)

To fix this, click Update Driver to update the device driver."

I have no idea what this means, except that I can't get wireless internet. If I click "Update Driver" it just takes me right back to the beginning, where I reinstall the drivers from the CD and get the same error message after restarting my computer.

I also tried to download some different drivers, just for the 802.11 g/b WLAN ZyDAS chipset, I usually get a similar error.

HELP?!?
 
open device manager and select the card. after that right click on it and click update driver... if that doesnt work then find a download on the net...

. I did download drivers from the internet as well, they say the same thing. I am trying to run this on Windows 2000 ME, could this be having some effect?
 
That's probably why it's not working then. It was most likely designed for an XP/Vista enviroment.

Try downloading the XP or Vista drivers (if they have it). I have a video capture device whose drivers would not install on my XP 64 bit machine (the driver on the CD was for 32 bit). The vendor's site had no XP 64 bit. For the helluvit, I downloaded the Vista 64 bit driver, and it works.
 
Try doing what Russel said, and upgrade your OS...

P.S. Try to stay away from those cheap Chinese sites when it comes to computer hard ware. I only trust reputable companies such as NewEgg with my computer hardware.

substituting is called driver emulation and yes it does work with the right drivers...
 
Don't you live near me? I've got some extra linksys g cards if you want one. Hell I probably have an extra n card, although on ME...not really worth it.

If windows is "bad" then ME is satan himself. Networking of any type on ME is nearly impossible.
 
So you recommend I switch to an OS like XP? I'm thinking that's the problem. If that won't work, I'll head your way I guess. Could you link me to the cards you have from this page and the price you might be looking for? Thanks.

Sorry to double post but I finally got internet on this desktop. I first joined the computer forum bleepingcomputer.com where I was told to download an new OS like open SuSE Linux. So I did. Then I was told on the openSuSE forum that my memory was too small and that's why their OS wasn't working. They recommended I download Puppy Linux, which I did and I finally ahve a working wireless internet connection.
