kk so i am deciding to make a red burning laser with w.e i can

so after reading tutorials on this forum and other places

i am aware that i need

a dvd burner diode

a housing and lens, driver board, and etc...

so i as wondering if this would work

would i just take out the diode from that product and replace it with a dvd diode?

well, the driver WILL work, but youll get a very very low output, and you may melt the existing driver if you try to use 9volt or li ion batts. think of it this way: that module has the lens, and the housing, but if you want a handheld, youll need a driver,. fora red laser, and for a noob, id go with a prebuilt preset rkstr driver. youll also need a host. the mxdl host is easy to modify for a first timer. search mxdl on dx. then you slap it all together with solder, and get the right batts.

no it wouldn't......if your wanting a red laser you need the diode from a dvd writer, not a dvd reader.
if your going fr violet you want the diode from the xbox HD drive, not the regular cd drive.

...just order an LPC-815 from drew in the buy sell trade thread.

$18 to have a perfectly good diode already in a module. then just buy a driver and your golden.
then just buy a rkcstr driver preset to 420mA.

heh unless you just want to buy it all from me.
i have 1x pointer and 1x module left.
both at 420mA, one has glass lens......i was lighting cigarettes with it last night because i lost my lighter
 
yeah i dun really wanna buy it from anyone cause it would just ruin the fun

and since this is my first time, i wanna do trial and error and stuff

and yeah =]

oh well, ill just go to a computer store near by and pick up a dvd burner for 30 bucks

btw, is 22x > 16x burners?
