My violet 405nm 1W+

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

this is violet 1w set at 1A, it can be up to 1.5A, diode 5.6mm

How do you know that your output is 1W? Just a little curious if you had someone else test it for you as you said you don't have an LPM?

I have been hoping for a more powerful 405nm, everyone has like Pman said. I love the 209 and all but it's too finicky. Even if 1W was the max capability of this new 405, I'd still like to have a multimode 405nm in my collection!

Have you tried shipping other items to someone in the states, if you are able to receive items there shouldn't be an issue in receiving them. You can always ship something very little in value and meaningless to you just in case it gets lost and that way you can make sure if your packages are getting through

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

Somehow if it won't led at 1.5 amps my gut tells me it can do over 1 watt at maybe 1.3 amps.

I'd love to see DTR get one to test.

I'd love to see anyone get one of these to test! The spec says at 5.5v and 400ma that the diode will be ~414nm, really makes me want one now. I wish I could find a 209 spec to compare with, I don't seem to remember the 209 shifting that much.

Jander did (2) 209s PBSd and had diodes that ended up being 411nm, but I believe they were binned that way. The couple extra NM might be a nice kick of added visibility.

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

dear, i tried this diode with 1400mA and it was die, you shouldn't do like that! i recommen about 1A, not higher

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

Did it run at 1.4A for an extended period or did it die right when it was turned on? I'll leave mine at or around the 1A, I like having more power but it's not worth killing a diode.

i'm so sad! it die right when it was turned on!

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

Well I'm sorry to hear that, are you going to install a replacement diode and try again at a lower current? Say 1.2A?

Also does your driver have a ramp up capacitor?

i haven't a LPM ,so i will not rate at 1.2A! ^^ sr, i only set at 1A, because i'm afraid my diode dies again!

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

Yea these have popped up a few times over the last few years and I may just decide to get some as they have been available to me for some time but always questioned the actual demand. In the past it seems someone posts about one of the 1-2W multimode 405's and there is a lot of excitement. I even consider getting a batch and selling them but then the excitement goes away when the first person sees one in hand. Fat beam that is much less visible and burns well up close but falls off hard the further you go out like other MM diodes. The ones I have seen tested also come in around 6-7V forward when 1A and higher. Thermal bottleneck is what I worry about with these when driving so.

This is just my raw thoughts.
1W 405 MM
1AX6.5V is 6.5W to make 1W out that is about a 15% efficiency
S06J
450mAX6.5V is 2.925W to make 700mW which is about a 27% efficiency
BDR-209
520mAX6.4V is 3.328W to make 900mW which is about 27% efficiency
M140
1.8AX4.5V is 8.1W to make 2.2W which is again about 27% efficiency

Seeing a pattern

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

I see the spec sheet says with pulse 1A = 1w, would cw operate at the same current?

Also the spec sheet says max voltage is 5.5v or is that inline with other 405s?

Edit: even at 5.5v its only 18% efficiency. :(

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

I am pretty sure the 5.5V is for the max CW rating of 400mA. If you go to 1A CW that is going to raise the forward. How much well will not know till a power graph is made on them.

Do you know what the pulse rating, if any, for the BDR diodes? 206/209?

Have you had one of these personally?

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

i will make a clip compare burn match between blue PLTB 450nm 1A and JDSU405 1A for you watching and comment

That would be great. Maybe some side by side beam shots in a Smokey room for some added wow.
That's weird autocorrect capitalized Smokey hmmmm.

Yea they are pulled from Sony BDR-209 sleds so no datasheet or part number. We just have the testing done here to go by.

Nope not yet.

Re: My violet 405nm 1000mA , diode JDSU405

i have just update video laser 405nm 1000mA vs blue 1000mA burn match with acrylic len!
- you should give me your ideas@ thanks
