My Real 488nm Sharp Diode Build

I finally found enough time to put together this thread showing my <488nm Sharp diode EDC build. I used a host I got from Rich, Lifetime17, which had an ML501P73 diode in it. It has a Nano Boost driver set at 275 mA in a copper module. As can be seen by the first photograph, it is in a copper heat sink. I measured the wavelength of this laser after it had been running for 30 seconds. At that time it still measured just under 488nm

Here is a beam shot of it at the TV while it was on.

Here is a beam shot with the beam coming at an angle, but toward the view.

And lastly, but far more importantly, the splash the camera caught. This was not at all what the dot looked like to me. The camera caught this with no flash on the camera. You can also see the refection of the beam to the right on objects that one would not normally see either.

I wanted everyone to see this last picture as it shows what the camera's sensor caught, but wasn't actually there to be seen by myself. :thanks: for having a look.

That's great, Alien Laser. I look forward to your build thread. BTW, where did you get a 488nm laser diode? Mine came from spectroscopic measurements of many diodes of different wavelengths.

That is quite the heatsink you've got there. The color of these diodes is truly breathtaking. Pictures just don't do it justice.

No, they don't. The third photo shows the color the best. BTW, what would you like me to do with the 476nm laser module you sent me? The diode is toast, but the module and driver are still good.

Nice build

I find that my 490nm is blue at day, but rather green at night. Is it the same for your slightly lower wavelength diode?

That’s too bad I have to spread the rep around because I can’t rep you :(
But absolutely beautiful Paul :)

I need to spread some rep around too, great build and color, do you run the diode at 275 ma? About the 473nm diode does it draw any current?

That's what I've found about my argon and my 485. I prefer the daytime colors.

I also really like the tiny builds Paul, can't wait to get these :D

Nice looking build, Paul, the camo host and copper heatsink compliment each other and look good together, just don't lay it down outside, you'll never find it again!

This reminds me, I've got to get busy building my 488 with the diode I got from you. :yh:
:gj: +rep!
