Are there any numbers -at all- on whatever tells you it was made by PMS/REO? (odd, writing this post less than a mile from PMS/REO right now...)

Maybe with a flashlight or mirror, or digicam with flash you could get that model no.? Most of these tubes should be like "30xxx".

It's 594 then.

REO's model numbers go like this:

L: (Laser)
T/H: (Tube/Head)
R/G/O/Y: (Color) (Red/Green/Orange/Yellow)
R/P: (Polarization: P - Linear, R - Random)
-
###: (Minimum output power - i.e. 0150 = 1.5mW min, 0200 = 2.0mW min)

So, LTYR-0200 says its a Laser Tube, Yellow (594), Randomly Polarized, at 2.0mW minimum (5.0mW maximum.)

For another example, their LHGP-0151 is a Laser Head (complete cylinder), Green (543nm), Linearly Polarized, 1.5mW minimum.

594 is by no means a 'bad find' though....

Heh, yes but man, a free yellow HeNe? WITH power supply? And optics? That's a hell of a score. Especially if it meters high, and those REOs, it may.

Tubes of those length usually meter 2-3mW. ~2.5 for a 594nm would be average and strong; if you see 3-5mW out of that, that's rather high.

REOs are good stuff too, what you've got there is the Rolls Royce or Bentley of HeNe lasers.

Speaking of which, here's where I was standing the other day at around 1pm with my smartphone:

I'm literally a 45 second walk from REO when I'm doing work at the SA Center (SACD production) in Boulder.

... I was tempted to walk in and ask them about 612's.

... But then I wondered if they'd call the police.

I may at some point; call ahead and ask if I can come in and see their setup and ask some questions. Wonder if they'll go for it....

I dunno. You'd be surprised who I've been able to chat with. I dropped an email to someone in photonics research here that showed them that I know what I'm talking about (for the most part) and that I was really interested in their field. I ended up having lunch with them, getting a tour of the lab, and some really interesting information.

I vote you talk to them! :)

You know, i'll give it a shot. The worst they can say is no. The best they can say is "Oh, 612s? We've got those!". :)

I'll start with some emails and see where it goes.
