my handheld TEC-cooled ML501P73 almost finished

Nice impressive test results... waiting for more
info when the TEC batteries are charged.
Hopefully you won't blow the LD..
Looks like cooling really helps output power.
Would have liked to know what the temperature
at the Diode was at 1455mW...

the thermometer shows around 1-2c at best after some time but i have installed the sensor on top of the diode heatsink instead of inside so i assume the real diode's temperature is around 0c or even minus numbers

Is this normal for red laser diodes to be able to get that much more when chilled so low? If it is, I've got a TEC cooled array in my future.

yes it actually is and also those 639nm diode can change a bit the wavelengh with lower temperatures thats why i wanted to make a tec cooled laser

Four years hanging out here and I didn't know the power out could be pushed that much more when TEC Cooled!

i did the final tests,at 1,4A without cooling i got the reading of 1270mw and at this point i turned on the tec and the output start climbing till it hit 1485mw

after that i pushed the current at 1.5A just to see the results and i got 1522mw

You've stumbled on something great there. Nice! :)
3x the rated power, probably with the wavelength staying low too.

Now my question is how long will the diode last at 1270 mw without cooling, and 1500+ with.

i don't really know the lifespan at those currents but if someone makes a build that high at least those diodes are not very expensive those days :)

When you shine that laser on the wall, do you have some laser goggles you could use to take a photo of the spot through so we can see its shape?

its defenetly almost the same with DTR's images, the 2 element lens has the same spot shape but its abit smaller.to be honest you can't have it all with those diodes, you either have have better beam-low power or the opposite.
