My first yellow build...updated with yellow beam!

Re: My first yellow build...

I know you are frustrated working on this but thanks for sharing your struggles. Cheering you on!

Re: My first yellow build...

Thanks Pete. I spent a couple of hours on it today, but its still not perfect. Ill post a pic in a bit. There are a couple of new problems however: It seems that the modules are not completely parallel in the host this means that, to start with the beams arent parallel. I then correct this with the optics, but because they arent parallel to start with they are ever so slightly separated at the aperture ie you can just make out two separate beams exiting the laser and then combining to one dot.

The other problem is the 520; its not strong enough and I cant reduce the 635, because the xdrive has a min of 360 mA...

The main issue is the optics without a proper mount it is really hard to align. I have to bend the copper to get it to the right spot, but this means moving it slightly further than needed because its elastic and springs back...I do have the dot, more or less, but as I said I can just see the two beams...

If anyone knows of any mini mounts with a size of max 13 x 8 x 5 mm please let me know otherwise Ill have to try and build something.

Updated with the latest result. The green was low because I had inadvertently moved the pot, it was at nearly 600 mA!!!and was dimming:eek: Its now back at 260 mA and happy again. Thank goodness these new diodes are tough! Enjoy the pic, Im getting closer...

Hey another DIY yellow or close to yellow... real fun builds +rep. I have an update to my mag yellow I believe it to be the simplest dual build to date it can even burn. Muhaa its not perfect in color right now and I must say more like 590'ish. I think I need to turn up the 520nm a little bit.

Been real busy I need to update my thread as jay noted with base numbers and such.

I still need to do somethings like paint the l-bracket I made to hold the mirror black and other little tidy things, but man this thing at night up in the clouds is s000ooo fun.

Your build looks fantastic! I see youve moved on to an adjustable mount and a dichro ;), I think I may also have go that route to get everything perfect. With mine if you look very closely you can just see the red and green leaving the head. Im also thinking of upgrading to a proper dichro rather than a turning mirror. Ill measure it tonight but it looks like Im loosing quite a bit of 520 from the reflection - I guess the turning mirror is not optimal for this wavelength.

If you dont mind me asking, where did you get your dichro and what was its transmission at 520?

Those are parts from a ca$io projector... Transmission loss from green last I remember was quite significant. I never intended this build to be anything but fun and as such I think I did well. I highly recommend the use of a mount on at least one side of these builds.

Wait I used the dichro to reflect the green The loss I was referring about was on the previous set-up

OP updated with pics of the new (tiny) mounts I knocked up...:)

Congratulations. I want to do a similar laser so I will follow your instructions. What happens when you project the RG beam through a diffraction grating to produce a cross, circle or other shapes? Does the shape remain yellow or do you get two shapes, one red and one green slightly shifted one from each other?

This build is awesome! Question- could you estimate how much time you have invested in this project to date? That includes planning, construction, tweaking.
I'm curious.

Wow, what an awesome Christmas present for ME lol. Hmmmm, now what to get you.....

Lookin great:)

Already answered this in your thread ;)

Sorry for the late replies. Probably a month or two just on and off though. Im still tweaking. If you were to invest all your free time it would probably take a week to get set up? I would recommend a host with a larger base for the optics though. The optics tray here is too cramped and short and hence why Im still working on it...

Great work here Grainde, looks awesome!
