This is not a guarantee by any means , but laserbtb is well known for overspec lasers. I have a HL532 that's is very nicely overspec and many can say the same with their lasers from this company.
 
thankyou @tmack do you know any members that have purchased any 445nm 1w+ from laserbtb? also what was the delivery time on your laser as I've purchased for express £25 extra?
 
Although it is clear in your post, your title says 1600MW, or megawatt. 1600MW=1600000000000mw.
 
Look in the group buy section. There is a laserbtb group buy going on right now. They will be more helpful then I can. I bought mine from a member o I can't say about delivery time. But you got yourself a nice laser. But if you ever want more power, consider a custom 445 built by a member. You get great mw for your money, and the designs vary from 1500mw pens, to 3500mw monsters. :) both of which I happen to own lol. Me sure to be careful with that laser. It's very strong.
 
Offroad, the OP of the GB, claimed his tested at 1.9W. And most of the reviews I've found have also shown laserbtb/skylasers are a bit overspec.
 
I bought this very laser. It's in the country now and I should have it in my sweaty palms before the weekend. I'll do a review. Was initially thinking of going for the 1W but thought why the hell not go for the full 1.6.
 
Reading your signature you don't have a meter. Do you plan on finding another means for measuring the output.
 
Not until I get a meter. I'm not hugely bothered about laser power as long as a laser does what I want of it, performs as expected and doesn't break. A bit like "pixel peeping" in photography an obsession with performance is unhealthy and something my personality is very prone to if I let it happen - so an LPM isn't something I'm overly concerned about.

I'll still review it, but you'll notice I never claim laser power numbers or try to guess. If laser reviews without numbers are frowned upon, please let me know and I won't post.

I look forward to your review, regardless of no power numbers being given. I was just mentioning it, because that seemed to be what the OP was looking for:

just wondering if anyone has already purchased one of these and if there mw is actually 1600 or higher? Or if anyone can show me a picture of theirs?

But I too, just picked up the same laser, so I'll keep a watch out for your review. And the more pics the merrier ;)

Christ. Good job it's in the PL host... I imagine the HL host with the 1W (let alone the 1.6 - which they don't offer in that host) diode must heat up pretty quickly.

Mine has not arrived in my sweaty hands yet. It's been in the country for days but Scottish bank holiday and New Year celebrations yesterday have put the brakes on transit for now.

I am probably going to do a video review when I get it.
 
Those little hl have OK heat dissipation. But yeah for 2w a pl would be preferred. With the hl just keep the duty cycle down. Lol my 1.5w pen I only keep on for 30 seconds. It doesn't get too hot but I'm afraid I'll cook something before I can feel it. :p
But my HL532 is over 300mw. Which means the doss process I add driven by about 1w of 808 and it doesn't get very warm at over 1.5 min. A more seasoned member told me those little HL have surprisingly good heatsinking
 
I've been following a duty cycle generally of 1 min 30 sec on and 30 sec off with the HL532-100 and it doesn't even get warm, even after quite a few cycles.

I will have to be more strict with the big PL445 as I imagine it'll heat the batteries up a fair bit too.

It's amazing how fast time travels when you're having fun with *ahem* using lasers, I recorded a short clip earlier of me trying to burn my way through a film canister and only when reviewing the vid did I realise the laser had been on several minutes.

Any thoughts on what duty cycle would be best on an 80mW red "pen" laser, assuming that it's slightly overspec (laserbtb lol)?

I would say no longer than a min or two. You will know when you get it. I have a 240 mw 650 and I don't think it's ever really even gotten warm, so one or to min would be prett conservative. But the easier you are the longer it ill last.
