As my 473nm DOHM 100mw DPSS laser arrived the other day i thought I would do a comparison between my "blues".

Funny how the eyes work- my 488nm Argon had always looked pale "Sky Blue" turquoise to my eyes. When I put it next to the 473nm it looked very almost green rather than turquoise!

Here is the 473 next to the 488.

Here are the pattern comparisons. VERY hard to do this without classes as the camera over exposes. I shut the aperture down all the way and sped the shutter right up. In the end i used my glasses over the lens.

Note the 473 is no way near TEM-0. I suspect the optics or the crystal have been knocked out of alignment slightly. I am interested in talking to anyone with suggestions before I attempt it on my own. I understand the crystal alignment is very hard to do?

Here are all of my "Blue's" I have right now.
Left to right:
405nm PHR-803 diode in Ultrafire C3 host,
445nm A140 1.5W in Ultrafire W501B Host
473nm DPSS DOHM 100mw Labby
488nm single line Uniphase Argon laser

All%20lasers.jpg

When you look at the beams the camera gets wiped out by the brightness of the high power 445, so much so that you can't even see the poor 405nm on the left hand end. The red LED on the PSU is brighter!

Here are the beam patterns!
First without filtering (my poor CCD!)
L to R:
488nm Argon, 445nm 1.5W, 473nm Labby, and the poor spot to the right and up is the 405nm PHR.

Now with filtering!
L to R:
488nm Argon, 473nm Labby, 445nm 1.5W (you can clearly see the elongated multimode diode beam) and the tiny spot to the right and up is the 405nm PHR.

Hehe dayam, looks like you'd be supplying most of the miniLEM :D

And I know what you mean about the argon, my ML argon actually looks more green than blue to me. It's quite an epic colour.

I'd probably leave the DHOM as it is. Running in non-TEM00 is pretty common in higher powered lasers, best to play safe.

lol, I'm still waiting on more!

Somewhere in the post are:
1 x 300mw 523nm labby,
2 x 405nm 700mW diodes
1 x 445nm 9mm diode
3 x 638nm 300mw diodes

Ah OK, lol. I've got a dual 640 laser-wave module in my scanner, it's a nice bright red :)

Last 3 "blues" you need are: 457nm DPSS, 435nm DPSS, a ML argon now

As for the 473 DPSS; mine averages 230mW and its beam stays as clean as my argon's

Well, almost. I should clean the lens.

Yes I so want a multi line argon now. 435nm would be an interesting dark blue, I'd like to see one of them! I'm thinking about a 450nm Osram diode, I'll probably get one soon.
Hmm, 457nm, I'll have a think about that one!

they don't come by cheap; there is a multi-watt one on feebay for <$10,000 last I checked.

edit: I'll try to find the cheapest source on a 435nm.. though it's probably CNI.

Hm, since it's stickied now I'll take some shots of my group... as soon as I get a new 445 again :/

I don't have much luck with these things.

Heh I was thinking of doing the same thing this weekend. I did the same for my reds awhile ago but never posted them since my work room looked like a tornado hit it. I'll have to try and take some of why own when I et the place cleaned up. Prepping for a cross country move sucks.

Do you have a working Argon Dan?

Yeah, I have a ML box head and a Uniphase PSU I bodged onto it. The head is really close to EOL with over 6100 hours on it though, the capillaries are full of junk and it's a pain to start ... But it works - well, it did when I last fired it up over a year ago. Not long to go though :(
