My awesome fun with a 445 (sarcasm)

It's the 2% that you need to worry about...:cryyy:
(There is nothing wrong with the Casio projector)

Don't feel bad... this summer (due to my own negligence) I managed
to blow 3 high power LDs at a cost near $1000.00...

Like some one posted... $h!t happens...
It's part of the learning curve....

BTW... before you tried all the other suggestions offered above...
I would have put my money on the batteries not supplying enough
voltage to the Linear driver...
Since you subjected the LD to the other suggestions before doing
some basic test of your original setup.... you probably did blow your
LD by now... IMO

Jerry

Exactly what I said... Ohh well, you live you learn :D

I'll add some more been there, done that...

I ordered two of these diodes from the start, because I was SURE I'd kill the first one. I think I usually break the thing pressing it in the heat sink, rather than applying power.
I was lucky this time and didn't kill either one!
I killed a LOC red last week.. and when PHR's came out, far more than I care to admit.
The two greens I killed were my most costly.

I have an argon, and got ambitious and decided to realign the mirrors. I had a dead $1000.00 laser for about 6 months, and lost a lot of sweat working on it.. That one is better than ever in the end, though :).

Its alright man...

At least it wasn't your fault.
Its a crappy feeling when you can blame yourself for the loss.

A couple months ago I bought a 100mW green module for about $65 bucks.
I had it working in my host for about 10 minutes. I took the battery out for some reason, and when I put it back in, I put it in backwards. BAM fried the module, it never lit again.

It sucks bad. But if you don't have a 445nm.... You should bite the bullet and buy another 445 diode when you can.... because they are worth the hassle.

worst case scenario i have a 450V 1Kj capacitor bank you can borrow and make it like that diode never existed :D

Hmmm... I don't get it....

If it lased for a moment and then died, that seems like it would have been a problem with the driver. Is it possible that the driver shorted some how? Did the driver come in contact with the wall of the aixiz module?

They don't just die out of the blue like that. Especially not with that low of a current. Well, who really knows...

Next time get a Flexdrive and juice it up a bit more than 400 some mAs. Assuming you have good heatsinking you can crank em up to 1.4A of current. I set mine to 800mA in my Ehgemus host and it'll run for about 40 seconds before the host starts getting warm. So drive yours accordingly.

Good luck with your next attempt.

is there no chance of an onboard capacitor not being discharged properly and powering up the diode? thats how most of my diodes went led.

I am not blaming anyone...especially(spelling?) the person i bought it from i have 100% faith in him and he is a good guy.
i dont put the aixiz back barrel on.....so it couldnt short it

Surprising to hear. These things are tough! Early on in the life of my 445, I shorted across the FB resistor of the boost driver while trying to measure the feedback voltage. My slip killed the driver and the 445 survived without a hitch and has had many flawless hours of use now o.0

it had a massive heatsink.....have you seen my PHR??lol thats size

First, let me say that my 445nm diode had a premature failure as well, in the form of an insanely weak anode pin. Not as bad as a non-lasing diode, though.

Before you blow it up, and as a last resort, you might try a reverse pulse. If I come across the post again, I'll link it, but LEDs can sometimes be brought back this way.

Also, I've noticed from reading around here that people's diodes that fail, seem to do so partially. From an electrical point of view, they are just very inefficient. I don't know if these people know if it's lasing or just emitting light, so it could just be that the LED'd 445nm diode is very LED-y....

i cant cheer you up but i can share in your pain. just before the 445's came out. i purchased a 8x sled from a group buy for 100bucks. literally the next day the first 445s went on sale and to double kill me... i fried my 8x during installation.

OUCH....
the only thing that woul cheer me up is a new 445....
i guess i better start saving
