My attempts at laser photography... *many new shots added* 8-24-11

Re: My attempts at laser photography... *new HDR shots* 1-24-11

With HDR you want to get as much detail as possible.
For example, in the shot with the trees you have here, you want to get the detail that is lost in shadow. The best method is to use a slower shutter speed. You don't want to change the aperture, since doing so changes the depth of field as well, and use a higher ISO only when necessary.

When you bracket, set the EV so that you can expose correctly each element in the photograph.

If you are interested, I have a great HDR workshop in PDF format that really has some great instruction. Let me know if you'd like me to send it your way.

And keep it up. ;)

Re: My attempts at laser photography... *new HDR shots* 1-24-11

Sorry for the childish "take my ball and go home" rant above, I just got peeved when I saw that.

Bobby: I'm a self taught photography noob myself, but I'll share my settings/methods with you for my shots I've posted. I just got done shoveling a crap ton of snow, and gotta goto bed, I'll write something up tomorrow after work.

RA_pierce: That would be great. I've known about HDR photography for sometime, but never played with it. After I saw your tree photo I though oh poop I gotta try that.

Re: My attempts at laser photography... *new HDR shots* 1-24-11

Thanks! I posted some beam-shots I did tonight in my IQS Round-up thread. I cannot figure out how to keep the near-field and far-field in focus at the same time. My camera skill so far is "Auto" with manual ISO and flash override ...

Re: My attempts at laser photography... *new shots added* 1-31-11

I took a break from this forum for awhile to focus on other stuff (and work got slow) but I've recently gotten the bug again! I've got a new laser on the way, and I might jump into a GB for another. (also a laser meter on the way) I would like to build a few more, so I'll start adding to this thread again with new pics in the coming weeks!

Cool, these shots are nice

Makes me want to get a better camera... lol

Red is tough to capture. Even at 330mw the beam is barely there in the pitch black. I'll try for a better shot this weekend...

How do you apply that effect around the dot.? Do you use some type of Picture editing software.?

No, that actually happens with the camera. Since my shutter was set so long to capture the faint beam, the brighter dot was over-exposed. So it gives it a blown out effect.

If I would use a faster shutter, the dot would look more normal (exposed correctly) but you wouldn't see the beam.

I see i always thought it was an effect.

Looks Cool.:)

Re: My attempts at laser photography... *new shots added* 8-4-11

I'm looking for a laser holder / gripper for taking photos. I know I have seen them and I heard people talking about them, but I can't remember what they are called officially or where I can buy one. Any help?

I might end up converting an old camera mini tripod, but not sure at this point.

You can buy them at any of the usual Chinese resellers like DX, DD, etc. for about 5 bucks. Look for a laser tripod.

The many-pointed star you get is because of the aperture blades. It presents more and more as you stop down down. :)

Another example.
