My analysis of the AMC7135 Driver

Re my earlier post: My bad - I was thinking the 7135 was a DC-DC converter rather than a regulator - I should have looked it up.

It looks like this could well work, though it depends a bit on how much the 14500 sags under a 350 mA load. I reckon it will be okay though, i just wonder how much battery life you'll get. My guess is a good 10 minutes at best.
 
oh now don't be goin and telling me that! If the 18650's were smaller in diameter I would use them. However given the host and it's AA size I don't see any other solution for using this host. It would be a good sale though. Higher powered laser with it's own rechargable batteries.
 
I think you will get more than 10 minutes out of it. ;) It would be great if there was a way to have the two batteries connected in parallel inside the tube of a flashlight..

Is that the single AA version?
 
I have a bunch of these coming. What I really like about them is the fairly low dropout voltage - 120mV! They should be fun and easy to experiment with.
 
No the particular one I've got is 2 AA's so I'm sure that I could run them in parrellel if I tried really hard. just a matter of putting some rubber foam in between the two batteries and running some wires externally. Then making a charging adapter somewhere in teh body so I can charge the batteries without removing them. Dorcy now does sell this particular host in a 1AA version but unlike the 2aa version I havn't found a retailer that sells them.

You're right, i flipped the numbers in my head... it should actually last over 2 hours as long as the batteries don't sag too much.

Why someone would use brandnames with FIRE in them for lithium sells is beyond me btw, though these have protection so you can probably trust them not to catch fire ;)
 
I checked the power output of the GB diode using the 7135 for regulation and the standard Aixiz module...the same one SenKat is selling. Running at 250ma's power output was ~155mw's. This coincides with Mikes graph as does my open can diode.

It is interesting to note that the GB diode in the Aixiz module seems to be a better burner than my open can diode when I run it at 350ma's. I don't know if this has to do with the beam specs of the diodes, or if the lens in this particular Aixiz module is producing more of a pin point dot. I do know for sure running the GB diode with this module is a great combination.

I remember posting when I thought 160ma's was reasonable for the GB diode. Even with that amount of current it burns quite well...so I think it might be the beam specs of the actual diodes playing a role in this?
 
Possibly.. it could also be in the output light shape or distribution. For optimal burning you really need pinpoint focus to raise the power density to maximum, which is more difficult if the output beam is more elliptic or a bit off-center from the lens.
 
Cool, this looks like a very interesting, quick fix solution for the flashlight housing lasers. And good quality too :)
is it the standard size of the other driver boards for LED lights?
 
I don't know but these things are tiny. 17mm diameter base, 3mm overall depth.
 
The actual AMC is a tiny chip really, just a few mm long... but it needs to be mounted onto something to dissipate any power. If it drops a volt or more, make sure to provide heatsinking!
 
It does begin to get hot at 5 volts. At 6 volts it cuts out on account of its thermal protection.
 
That's better than expected really, do you have it 'floating' in mid air, or mounted onto a pcb or something?

I'm thinking these would make very nice regulators running off 3 NiMH or alkaline cells... also, they'd probably make excellent replacement drivers for green DX pointers - perhaps i should get a few to play with.

Is it 17mm for the chip, or for the whole circuit?
