Mosquito Eradication by Laser






Cool beans.

I think we talked about a blu ray bug zapper once.

Most regular bug zappers have UV bulbs in them to attract insects, so a blu ray "grid" made by bouncing a BR beam back and forth seems like an interesting way to fry unwanted pests.

I hope he means the laser itself was built of parts found on ebay, because I'm very reluctant to believe this thing can really track mosquitos on the darkness and kill them "on-the-fly" with ebay parts lol

@laze doctor: A GGW or a 8x would do the trick easily
 
Yeah, systems like these have been around for a while, not always using 405nm. I remember reading about one system a while ago that would track mosqitoes and fry them. It's not really the most practical method though.
 
Yup, specially if a mosquito starts flying around your face lol
 
Seems kinda cruel since it doesn't really kill it, just takes it's wings off but meh.

Would be interested to see how accurate and efficient it is in a room full of mosquitoes :)

did any one notice the tweezers holding the last bug... I wonder just how well it can track bugs in flight ?
 
ancient chinese proverb: Don't use a laser to kill a mosquito. er something like that I think........
 
Mosquitos are attracted by CO2 and moisture in your breath. Bug zappers get them when they stumble in.

Mike your one of the last people here I would like to lock horns with... BUT

why does every bug zapper on the market have a UV light bulb in it?

And from first hand observation, I have a black light for setting the mood in my motor home, one night last summer me and the little lady fell asleep all night leaving the black light on, and the next morning the inside of my camper was swarming with bugs.
 
True --- Many flying insects are attracted to light - especially UV light. Mosquitos however are looking for blood. Some zappers have a place for an attractant and a couple years ago Coleman and others made a trap especially for mosquitos using a small flame plus attractant. The flame released a little heat and moisture. They cost a bunch and ran off a 20# LP tank.

Yep I remember that, there is a cartridge slot on top of my zapper for attractant.

I also built a flea trap, hang a night light upside down over a bowl of water.

The fleas will jump at the bulb (attracted to the heat) and fall into the water bowl and drown.

It works.
