Here is a mini review/build with pic's, of a quick little build using one of Hakzaw's "mini-modules".

This build is using the 650nm, <5mW, focusable module.

This project uses a small 4" long (102mm) flashlight purchased at a local home-improvement store for $3.99.
It originally used 1 'aaa' battery, now using 1 'AW-10440' unprotected battery.
It uses a constant tail clicky switch rather than the usuall momentary type.

All in all, it's a pretty nice little light considering it's size & price!

Components:

- flashlight (host)
- DIY aluminum heat sink
- <5mW 650nm focusable module
- AW-10440 battery

Total price $9.00, not too bad for a new "cat toy".
Probably could have bought one for less, but building it is most of the fun! :)

Now for some pic's - :D

After removing all the components from the board, I soldered a copper spacer to the batt. side to insure good contact,
since this build is case pos., and the battery direction is reversed,(neg. end in first).

As near as I can tell, the beam diameter seems to be 1.5mm.

Yeah before that he was none in a row- lol

while these last I will be adding them in every box i send out- they are comp. of Dr Chuck at AixiZ- In bulk I think you can buy these from china for less than a buck each.

they are great for the kiddos- pretty safe and a good time to begin teaching them about safe and sane use.
