MEGADILDA - DX200 Red on steroids.

I'm planning on doing a mod similar to this one, with stonetek's driver but using the red 16x sony diode he also sells. I have a good multimeter and the old diode on hand, how should I go about setting it up so it wont go poof the first time I use it?
help would be appreciated... I'll read over the thread again to see if I missed anything...

Is the Senkat diode stronger enough, (than the Dilda stock diode), to warrant rebuilding this? It seems to me that you are going to end up with the same class of laser as the dilda was originally after all your effort. Wouldn't you need a long open can (or a blu-ray) to make this rebuild worthwhile?

Peace,
dave

Dave,
It is probably not as worthwhile to do for some, but I'm more in the learning stage of things here. after I get bored of playing with this I do plan on turning it into a blu ray.

at least now I have two good red diodes to mess with. and will possibly try a flashlight mod if dx has any cheap ones that will work in stock... (since I don't think i can order another dilda from dx because of a newer warning from paypal...)

after a bit of trial and error I finally got it working...
silly me forgot to move the plug on the multimeter, overlooking that I removed the diode and noticed the contact area where the neg was had been removed in the process, so I used one of the wires that came with the driver to connect the neg pin to the neg input (which was unused anyways)... after i got it together the second time and was wondering why it wouldn't work through my multimeter I then noticed the cable problem... I now have the pot set to send 50ma through it, enough to make it glow...
any suggestions for a power to set it at using 6v input?

I'll post pics of the finished product once I find the charger... all I have now on the camera is pics of it being taken apart

*edit in to keep from posting*
I have it set to 250mw (what i remember the old one being) and am very impressed by how much sharper the dot looks. also the focus knob is at least a whole turn in deeper to get a tiny dot across my room. before i could see a gap behind the black knob, now its in too far to see it.
I'm very happy with it now, I'm just wondering how much I should turn it up to...

Easy does it!
I was at the same stage as you, wanting to coax a little more out of the closed can 16x diode & I killed it. (see my sig line)
I then extracted an LG 22x open can LD for more heat & it will easily take all of the 430mA the rkcstr driver provides.

I'm starting to think i might turn it to the left until I get some goggles, the spot seems brighter than the old setup.... haha
at least in my trial and error "turning it up slowly" I happened to stop on a safe number.

newegg has a 22x lg for 26 bucks or so... seems like a deal if it has an open can in it.

im still learning, and will hopefully get a 405 to play with in the near future :D

:D
Yeah thats the one to get, I bought two, they're running @ 430mA
someone here has theirs turned up to 480mA
I think daguin was above that for torture testing.

I just received my DX 200 aug 20th
I tried it out for about 30 secs last night................
now its splayed open on my bench @ work & I'm
performing the ceremony :D

Finished this mod a couple of days ago.
Way better burner now!
