Maybe it's Just Me...

Let me rephrase...I'm not bored with lasers, I am just finding I have less enthusiasm about building handhelds than I had previously. The only handhelds that are exciting me, of late, are ones that are made with incredibly designed, custom hosts, like Sinner's and other's.

I have NO need for more than 1 high-powered 445. A 450 in my collection would be nice enough, and a 638, but I cannot seem to muster any excitement for using another flashlight-mod to have those.

I know I want more wavelengths, and I know I want them in a compact (hah) form, like a multi-line argon.

I don't feel like I've "wasted" any of my money. Even the dead diodes were learning experiences. And, I've managed to mitigate much of the cost of the hobby by selling lasers.

Can't a brother just want more?

Well I think you have come to a point where you have discovered the secrets of handhelds and since there are no more "mysteries" than you need to search for new challenges. I think that argon lasers are even less fascinating than a handheld unit. You can't make yourself a self built argon, unless you are like a engineer or something, so you buy them, you set them up, and turn them on for some times and some pictures. I also was looking to buy a multiline argon, unfortunately I wasn't able to find one. But I think the fun would be over in about a week like my other two Argons.

Now I have another quest, collect the lasers as you do in stamps. This has a nice look, that one has a different wavelength ecc..ecc...

Also you could try different aspects like getting an rgb laser or better yet building one, even if not handheld.

The good thing about this hobby is that it always has something new, even if you have years in it.

Hi power lasers of >3w are new, green laser diodes are new, who knows what will there be in the future....

I guess that another quest could be to make some personalized handhelds, make your own heatsinks, find your own particular hosts....ecc...ecc...

Okay, this took me forever to dig up, but THIS will reinterest you in handheld lasers, or you are not human! But yeah, moving to Gas lasers is a logical move in my opinion.

I have always been fascinated with lasers, but for me it is all about:
If Handheld, how sleek the host looks and how clean the beam looks
If Gas, does it work? I will be expanding my collection of gas lasers soon, just waiting til I see the right deal when I have the right amount of money.

What I mean was it seems funny to drop so much money on something, to turn around and drop it.

Not that other parts of laser technology aren't absolutely freaking awesome.

You can like all the other things like gas and projectors without thinking diode driven handhelds are dumb and boring.

Definitely not trying to diss any other parts of laser tech, I would love to have a multi line argon, but I don't have the room or the cash for that. And I am hoping to get a low end pj within the next year. But, I will always be adding to my handheld collection, every time a new diode comes out, I'm gonna need it.
